I patched a japanese rom of Metal Gear (like the readme for the translation said to), but now I can't figure out how to run it on fMSX.
What happens is, if I load it as a cartridge or disk, or open the file, it just plays the MSX logo intro over and over again.
I used Lunar IPS to patch the ROM.
A link to the ROM I used: Link removed by moderator.
A link to the translation: http://www.romhacking.net/translations/842/
Here are my hardware specs:
Manufacturer: ZT Systems
Processor: AMD A8-3850 APU with Radeon™ HD Graphics 2.90 GHz
Installed Memory (RAM): 16.0 GB (15.5 GB Usable)
System Type: 64-Bit OS Windows 7 Premium
If you need any more info, just ask.

I don't know if it applies in this situation but 9 times out of 10 when someone has this sort of question it's because the patch they are using calls for an unheadered ROM but what they have is an headered ROM, or vice-versa. If that's the case the patch will alter the wrong data, therefore "breaking" the ROM. If the author of the hack was considerate enough the readme will tell you which one it needs to be. I would suggest a program to help you answer the question of whether your ROM is headered or unheadered but I'm afraid I tend to only deal with NES and SNES ROMs.

Hope that was helpful.

Hey dude, thanks for tryin' to help!
Unfortunately, the readme doesn't say which one is required. Is there any way to tell if a ROM is headered or unheadered?

I don't know anything about MSX emulation or ROMs specifically but before I knew anything about how to check for NES and SNES headers I used to get around this issue by simply downloading the ROM from different sites until I found one that did work with whatever patch I was trying to use. I know that's kind of a half-assed solution but until someone else responds that knows more about MSX you could try that if you have the time. It did work for me a number of times.

I use BlueMSX for all my MSX games. PM me the file you're trying to use.
