I did some research online already, but I figured it was worth asking the question since everything I found was several years old. Is there a Japanese to English Terranigma patch?

I realize the game is already in English; I just happen to own a Japanese copy and was wanting to patch it on my Retron...

Rodimus Primal

Unfortunately no. There is a PAL to NTSC patch that brings the game back to 60 fps (instead of 50).

Yeah, that's all I had been able to find. Just wanted to verify. Maybe someday.

It's a bit frustrating how expensive PAL copies are in comparison to the Japanese ones. I got the game fairly cheap several years ago just "to have" (I'm a big Illusion of Gaia fan).

There was a similar thread recently about Chrono Trigger, I think.

The solution was to just create an .ips file yourself, using the Japanese ROM as the source and the American ROM as the target.

That way, you could also create .ips patches for any game you like, even if you don't have it: use a ROM that you own the cartridge as the .ips source and as the target put the ROM of the game that you want to play.
There has to be a better life.

I have no experience ROM hacking (just not something I've ever needed to learn), but I'm pretty good with a computer. Are there any tutorials/guides/etc. on how this could be done?

How difficult would it really be?

EDIT: I found the Chrono Trigger thread. Seems pretty simple. I'll see if I can make it work.

EDIT 2: That was so easy, and it works beautifully. Thank you so much!

Congratulations! You're a bit lucky that worked. ;) But it's nice when things work.

Did you apply the PAL patch to the english rom to make it NTSC before using the create IPS patch?

Or does that not matter?

At this point, you could have just downloaded the PAL terranigma rom off the internet.
It would be the exact same from a legal standpoint (that translation is actually commercial and not a free fan translation)
