They are sound effects 496 & 497 in the Star Ocean SFC (Super FamiCom) sound test.

Happens within the first ~10 seconds of that video.

So I'd like to be able to mute those through hacking the rom or what have you.  Anyone know how to go about finding sound effects in the ROM or muting them out without crashing the game?

If I can get it to work, I'll submit it as a patch so that others can benefit as well.  I'm fairly sure I'm not the only one who is put off by it.
I know how to mute ALL sound effects, but I'd rather not resort to that since it means I'll miss out on the battle voices and all the other decent sounds.

I'm not sure if it'll cause problems but in the sound test it 'seemed' okay.

$C0:9499 (SNES Address) $20:1499 (PC Address)
$C0:949B (SNES Address) $20:149B (PC Address)

Set both of those pointers to 00.

It should read ...00 00 00 00 76 C1... when done.  Hopefully this helps!

Thank you for the response!  I'm going to try this out and let you know how it goes!
I can hex-edit so I'll have to dig around in learning about pointers for a bit...
