The music is great! Love that rain effect also for the background and how the ground water splashes now.

Track G is absolutely fantastic! I'd say that's my favorite track as of yet.  It really captures the feel of the area, can't wait to get it integrated into the final ROM.

Track H is my favourite, but they are both wonderful. This is simply one of the most promising hacks I've ever seen. 10 / 10 so far man! Wow!

We may be getting close to release, but we don't want to rush things, especially when we all have plenty going on as it is. Most likely, we're looking at January.

Just wanted to give everyone interested an update on our progress.  The level design is 100% complete, music is close to completion (90% range), and ASM for all of the key features is complete.  We're adding the final layers of polish for the level design, graphics and ASM modifications.  A few minor bugs are being worked out but that's expected at this point of development.  Once the music is complete we'll be bringing it into the master ROM file and then proceeding to active playtesting.

Being a prequel to the series the storyline is based on what is given in the original Metroid story.  That being the case I thought it would be a good idea to share a copy of the original Metroid story as written in the original Metroid instruction manual:

If the story is in a pic I can't see it for some reason.

EDIT: Nevermind. I can see it now.

Actually, it kinda makes me think of someone like Sunsoft. They usually pushed the limits of what could be done with the hardware (or at least it seemed like it).

Very nice use of the color palettes. I like the mini map addition...

As for the hub in general, how does the sprites there affect the rest of the game? Does it create any constraint to the number of sprites on screen, or on the same scanline? I think I can count at least 24 sprites for the hub only, assuming all sprites are 8x8 pixels...

Initially the corner map was a modification of Parasyte's corner map, but that map glitches on the edges of the game world, and has a bug where if there are too many sprites on the screen, they all disappear.

I rewrote it fix bugs, make it faster, and to use lowest-priority sprites. Since it does use a lot of sprites, there will be flicker, but the map will flicker instead of causing enemies to flicker and if there are too many sprites on the screen the map will start dropping tiles instead of something else.
