I made a complete run once again and I'm quite satisfied with the results. I didn't find any game-breaking bug. I like what you did with the Polyps. I managed to do 83% completion in about 3.5 hours. I went into the last zone with all power-ups, 6 energy tanks, but "only" 220 missiles...

Seeing that there are people here asking for help, I suggest we split this thread into two distinct threads: this one for bug reports, and a new one for help and hints on the game. What do you think?

That would be a good idea, where would we place a help thread at?  There is an issue though, this thread is linked to from multiple places on the internet, most people may miss the secondary thread.

Oh I did have one more bit of feedback! The Metroids don't seem to drop missiles very often. Is there a chance that could be changed in a future revision? I ended up running out of missiles while trying to refill them by killing metroids.

Yesterday i watched live stream. Streamer was having really low hp and he gets like 10 missiles in a row from metroids. So that's rng for you :DD

I ended up stuck at the south-east energy fountain my first time because I ran out of missiles fighting the metroids (coming in with 230). Sometimes the drops are just really unlucky, but also I wasn't expecting so many metroids, especially being directly in my way and having to be destroyed! My subsequent attempt was fine though, I found that once I started being careful they did replenish faster than I was being worn down.

Incidentally I find it curious that the fountains refill energy but not missiles. Why alleviate energy grind, but not missile grind? It would also probably make this metroid drop RNG mostly not a problem, since there are a few fountains on that path.

I just finished a playthrough of version 1.0, notes here:
Spoiler
I played through version 1.0, with 81% and it said 6:26:54 but there's a lot of wandering around that would have been unsaved (e.g. I spent  a very long time trying to get to the ship boss before I realized the entrance was one of those teleporting locations elsewhere-- my real time was probably like 10 hours). I had one missile tank not "take" after I collected it (next missile drop "refilled" me for -5), and I intentionally skipped the e-tank of the people who needed it for their radio, and apparently I missed the screw attack?? Not sure what else might have affected my percentage.

I dunno if that missile got fixed in 1.1... I couldn't find any change logs explaining what was different, or if it was safe to upgrade the ROM in the middle of a playthrough, so I didn't try it.

As far as the "secret" stuff:
Spoiler
I also found the Grim Picker, and the Super Mario Bros. zone. I really liked the music in the SMB area, though I couldn't figure out if there was an exit from that place. So... that sounds like I found a couple of the easter eggs and stuff but it seems like I missed quite a bit? I don't remember any "art screens".

Anyhow, really cool. I enjoyed it a lot. Thanks for all the hard work!

I defeated the game this afternoon.

I'm going to wait to review it however, because a lot of my thoughts involve spoilers etc.

I think one thing I can say is, I find it amazing that this game was originally the Nes Metroid and that the engine etc hides behind this creation. You would never know it.

Wow Seph you already beat the game, holy crap you are a hardcore player,GOTTA around to playing it XD also how's Cadence of Agony coming along?

By the way, my very favourite part of this game was actually the room where
Spoiler
the ship's crew ask you to leave the E-tank behind. Even though it doesn't seem like it affects the ending or anything, it really made me think hard about whether I should take it or not. Eventually I decided to leave it for them.

I presume the first page is where the links point to? Add a link there that invites people to go to the dedicated "help" page if they are stuck somewhere in the game, and keep this thread for bug reports and possible suggestions...

Will there be an .nsf with the music released? I would like a copy of the SMB easter egg area music.

that's so funny because even when I stopped playing and came back later I had the same RNG! But I guess that's what makes it random.

Hey everyone I appreciate all the feedback but please do try to keep spoilers contained in spoiler tags.  You can edit your existing posts and highlight the text then click the spoiler button above.  Thanks.

Just wanted to say - I am really impressed by the work done on this hack. It's a game changer. Thank you for the amazing work.

I am so surprised to see people have already completed it. It has taken me hours just to get the first 2 power ups (though I have found loads of missiles).

As a Metroid veteran, I would personally like to see better signposting for what to do next. I am in the forest area at the moment and the warping level design completely baffles me.

Thanks!

Gamerhenky

I wonder this hack will be translated into Japanese someday under the title メトロイドローグドーン

Anyways, here's the gameplay video by Shiryu

Spoiler
I'm considering further modifying the warping area to decrease it's difficulty.  After watching some play throughs and streams the issue seems to be players wanting to go back in after they exit, as in entering on the exit side.  The exit is next to where the giant brightly colored skull is.  The entry is the bombable openings where the bugs come out.  There's 5 entries but most are a straight shot down to the exit point.  Once you enter the right entry point your golden, it's strait through.  Maybe I'll just do away with the whole thing.

Yes, I haven't played a lot of Metroid hacks but I'm having a blast with Rogue Dawn.  It definitely feels completely different from the original.

I'm still not entirely sure I understand all the "rules" of the game world, though, despite having collected 7 power ups and plenty of missiles.  For example, it feels like I should have encountered one of the bosses by this point, unless I've just been relying far too heavily on hidden passages to get around.  I'm also not sure where everyone is finding these warp areas.

I only got 47% items and I got aggrivated and used a wall clip glitch in the grass area.

Took 2 days. Stayed up all night fell asleep on couch playing it..Then finally got to the end without enough missiles. Had to go back and get more and then managed to beat it.

duiz

Love the work you guys did! Having so much fun!

Looks like someone already made a box for this. I discovered the hack here yesterday myself.
