The corner map doesn't tell you where to go, it only shows what the path does in the next screen in any given direction.  It doesn't show item placement either.  Bosses are not marked, nor are healing stations.  The pause map is more revealing since it shows what the path does multiple screens over and you can freely scroll it with the directional pad.  I think people are making a bigger deal about the map than is warranted honestly, consider it (corner map) a scanning device she has that scans the structures in the immediate area.  The corner map can easily be disabled by painting the associated tiles with transparency (color slot 1 in TLP)
Yes thank you for the explanation and yes I will shut up about it now. Wasn't even gonna mention it until I saw everybody else bringing it up.

Man, I keep checking back to this thread to see if the game is out yet. I cannot wait.

As long as he doesn't release it on August 6, I'm okay with waiting.
If he does release it on the same day as AM2r (August 6), a lot of attention will be drawn to the Metroid II remake instead.

I wonder if playtesting is still going. I also wonder what they would do if they find a huge bug.

Well, we're going to release it when it's ready, that's really all I can say since there's no telling what the next few weeks hold.  If we get it released roughly around the original release date that would be pretty neat, if not it's still within the 30 year anniversary, just not down to the day.

Not yet, we're in the process of adding some really neat last minute extras as well as tackling the remaining punch list.

Squash it with a huge hammer, naturally!  ;D

^ I'm still with the idea that the mini-map should be moved to the top right corner like in the modern 2D Metroid games (Super Metroid, and the GBA Metroid games).

Is not that I don't like it right now. Is more or less for the fun of it.

Still not possible....  :P  (unless it's to the right but at the same level leaving an ugly blank gap above it)

Thirteen 1355

Hehe, neat that there are still things being added.
How much larger is this ROM in comparison to the original Metroid (in Mb)?

snarfblam

Original was 128 KB program ROM (graphics included).

New is 512 KB program ROM + 256 KB CHR ROM = 768 KB.

That doesn't mean that all 768 KB is being used. I think nearly all the space for graphics is being used, and there is in the ballpark of 180 KB free in the program ROM.

Would Rogue Dawn be a good basis for an updated version of the original Metroid a'la Zero Mission?

Thirteen 1355

If you want to create a 'remake' of the original Metroid with Rogue Dawn as basis, you need to change back EVERY area to its original state first.

You could..... or you could use the Roid'z hack once the new editor is released and then expand it to the new mapper (with the editor).

Once the final build of Rogue Dawn is compiled and the music is inserted I don't think it'll play nice with the editor.  The editor it set up for all the source content, ROM, ASM and so forth.  If you guys want to edit RD with Editroid once it's out you're going to have to get on Snarfblam's good side cause he'll have to tweak his editor to work with it which I'm sure would entail countless hours of tedious code modifications.

Am counting the days.... cant wait.............

Am thinking this will be so awesome as Other M is, at last a truly original Metroid in old school fashion, hope it will be finished soon, I will play this game in a Nes emulator in a Wii console in a 29" CRT TV.

That sounds fun. I'll probably never play it until I can put it into a genuine HD modded NES just to give it the respect it deserves. :-X

Yep, looks like they finally did it:

We're not quite there yet, unfortunately the last couple of weeks were pretty rough on my end and I had to direct my attention elsewhere.   I'm back at it as of this weekend so we're back to inching our way to completion.

Great!!! long waiting too! I think AM2R is the apetizer before Rogue Dawn :P

Rogue Dawn is dessert!

How much is left to be done? I assume story is done. The areas were done, the music (?)

Unfortunately. AM2R is really-really down by Nintendo. Rogue Dawn will be like this too?

Thirteen 1355

Like anyone will care.
Rogue Dawn is (face it) much less popular. Fortunately.

Augh. Crimson Echoes is the worst nightmare (I think).
