Journey to Silius is too hard no matter what, but in this quick hack I gave you way more life to make the game somewhat more enjoyable:

Nice work.

Did you make it so the life powerups appear more often than once every solar eclipse? :)

Hah no sorry.  I just gave you a much larger amount of life.  Once I realized the game is pointlessly unfair I didn't bother coming up with a better solution.  It reminds me of holy diver, much to appreciate but exceedingly difficult.

I know what you mean about the life powerup.  I needed to get one to debug where the game sets your life value after picking one up because it was actually decreasing the life bar down to the original limit.  Took a lot of running around killing stuff to finally get one to appear.

Makes me think what other games can benefit from easy mode.

I've already done one more that I didn't bother releasing, trip world.  I did the same thing as this game, I just increased the amount of health you get.  I already mentioned holy diver that game definitely needs an easy mode.  I added the trip world patch to the first post.  I'd want to colorize trip world which is currently way over my head.

Pretty much any early contra game can use an easy mode hack, I already did that for Super C and Contra 3: alien wars.

Easy mode hacks make great games that are just too difficult balanced enough for me to bother playing through.  Before I made these games easier I didn't clear most of them because they were so difficult that they stopped being fun.  That was a big shame because they're great games, they're just too difficult by default.  The amazing metroid + saving hack by snarfblam is the reason why I finally cleared the original metroid for the first time.

Now that I think of it....Gimmick! can use an easy mode hack.

Some say that's the reason it didn't get a US release. It's said Irem America pushed for an easy mode but Irem Japan wouldn't allow it.
(well, that and maybe a name change. Not only because of possible legal issues with the song, but also because "holy" was officially on NoA's "words banned from Nintendo games" lists :P )

Changing the game name shouldn't have been a problem.  Sunsoft may make awesome games that are too hard but irem makes awesome games that are even moreso too hard.

I usually cry foul over easy types. Most young'uns these days don't know what a hard game is. I even scoff at such projects! *scoff*

However,... Journey to Siliuis is some feckin' buuuushit! That game is just ridiculous! I'll give this patch a try. While getting health drops more often is a more idea situation, there IS more than one way to skin the proverbial cat.

On a side note, I've always wondered what Journey to Silius would have looked like if they had been able to keep the  Terminator license. Could make a cool romhack some day.

EDIT:

OK. Just tried it. Wow, that's a hell of a lot more playable now. Damn. Good job!

Thanks.  It's amazing how adding some extra health can make such a difference.  The game is still stupidly unfair, but at least it's more enjoyable now.  To actually make the game enjoyable would require changing a lot of things to make it fair which I don't have time to bother with.
