EDIT: User Cargodin is working on their own translation, and you should follow their updates instead of coming to this thread!

Original (very outdated and very abandoned!) post below:

Spoiler

Here's something me and Esperknight have been working on for a while, since early 2012, but had stalled on my end due to life stuff et cetera. It's Shoji Masuda's (Tengai Makyou, Ore no Shika) cosmo-biblical animal-hunting horror-RPG Linda Cube!

There's no release date planned at the moment and it probably won't be for at least a year, but for now, yes it is being worked on quite regularly now ;) . On the hacking side, text insertion and VWF is working but there are some things that need to be fixed.

Some screenshots:

This is my favorite JRPG ever and possibly even my favorite GAME ever, so I am happy to be translating this. :)

Wow! This is incredibly exciting! I've been attempting to play Linda Cube Again off and on for several years now but I could not get past the language barrier. Good luck on the project Swarm and Esperknight!

skyrunner14

Cool, I've seen this before but the language barrier kept me from trying it. Is this for the PS1 or Saturn? I think it was released on both, or it could've just been on the Saturn. I'm not sure which.

Akujo

Thanks so much for taking this on! If both this game and "Moon" are translated, then the Japan-only wacky masterpiece RPG trifecta (with Mother 3) will finally be complete!

The PlayStation version is the main one we're working on, but the Saturn version might be a possibility, the files are mostly the same and we have the script dumped. One problem we have for that version though is converting the game's cinepak files.

This is PERFECT!!!

I've been wanting to play this for ages, along Moon (which you are already translating. Thanks a lot!!!) and Planet Laika.

cosmo-biblical animal-hunting horror-RPG

I think this is the best description ever. Keep up the good work!!! I'll be really looking forward for this!!

:D  Makes me happy when people are excited for what I'm helping with :)

Also, Swarm is not the translator for this, SteveMartin is.  Just want to say that so no one bugs Swarm for Moon updates.  I'm the hacker for both so of course it's fine to bug me :)  (And don't be afraid too either... I'm forgetful for doing updates obviously :) )

From talking with SteveMartin, it seems it was closed due to inactivity (I'm just too slow... :( ).  But I can say it's going along nicely.  At this time I've cleared most of the major hacking needing done and now have to work on getting 1 byte ascii setup since I don't have enough space in the EXE for all the stuff that needs going there.  Also thinking about implementing a new font to see how it looks too (which is done).  So almost there :)  At this time it should be fully playable albeit missing stuff from the EXE (status windows and what not).  So yeah, no dead :)

warren

thanks for the update, can't wait to play it

i didn't knew linda cube again but it looks awesome too  :)

What you guys are doing is great!
So I'm hyped to finally play this. Thanks.

You guys are translating this as well?! Wow! lol i've been spoting at this title for awhile & the funny thing is, this game is actually available on the Japanese Playstation Store right now!! :D i'm definitely buying this whenever i get some Yen on my account soon (Hopefully this christmas). And then once the patch is released i'll give it a spin on my Vita! so once again Thanks esperknight & Swarm.

olystubby

Wow, interesting. I tried translating this several years ago and got pretty far but there appears to be some sort of checksum or whatever that prevents the game from booting if a single byte is changed. I'm not a programmer at all, so I kind of gave up. If you'd like to exchange notes or anything, let me know: wifford (at) gmail. I also have the Saturn version, a few art books, a disorganized walkthrough I wrote. This is one of my favorite games ever. If there's anything I can contribute, please let me know!

Gemini

One very tiny suggestion about subbed videos: don't use hard subs, make them soft; quality will be much better (MDEC recompression is quite... unpleasant) and you won't have to release a patch that contains hundreds of MB of redundancy. I have some generic code for the task if you need it, both in the form of assembly or C (either can be used). It works like a charm for games such as Persona 2 or Final Fantasy VII because most PlayStation movie players are based pretty much entirely on Sony's sample code, not to mention MDEC doesn't really allow for many differences in decompression procedures.

Swarm

olystubby: Oh, cool! I'm not sure if there's anything I need right now, but I'll definitely send you an email if I think of something. Feel free to send me a PM or an email (address is in my profile) if you'd like to know anything about work on our end, though. Or just to talk about the game! I don't have anybody to talk about this game since I don't know anyone else who's beaten it *sob*

Also, I have the artbook and versions of all the games too

Gemini: I think softsubs are what we were gonna do in the first place and what I suggested, actually. Can't remember if esperknight figured them out though, so we just went with hardsubs for now.

Will you "restore" the censored content on the PSX version (the Saturn one is uncensored as far as i know) ?
And thanks for translating this game, being a huge Tatsuyuki Tanaka fan, I've been waiting for this for a long time.

W... w.. wait a minute? You said this game is censored?! but the Sega Saturn version is not? Well that gives me a perfect reason to go pick up a Japanese Sega Saturn & this game for it instead! lol btw can you describe a few parts of the game that "was" Censored? Thanks man for warning us!

KingMike

Maybe that explains why the PS version is the cheapest (that and being the only to get a reprint version, I think).

Well, I suppose some FMVs were purged but i'm only speculating. I read it on a wyrdwad's video who is generally a pretty legit source of information.

Swarm

Yeah, I've read about the Saturn version restoring some censored content or something, but the FMVs are identical on both versions. I think I remember it has something to do with the some of the dialogue with one of the bosses. Apart from that, the Saturn has some bonus content when you clear all the scenarios and slightly different sequenced audio, but there aren't any major differences between the versions as far as I can tell!
