How to report a broken upload properly?
« on: October 16, 2013, 12:31:46 am »
When you see a hack whose download works, but the .zip / .rar will not open in either 7-zip or WinRar, what are the correct ways to report this to the author / to the proper place?

More specifically, the following romhacks, all three by the same author, cannot have their .zip files opened.
http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/1616/
http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/1618/
http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/1615/

The author in question: http://www.romhacking.net/community/693/ (no contact information is listed)

Please let me know if you can open these files properly - that would mean it's on my end, with both WinRar and 7-Zip failing to open them.

EDIT: I've also tried manually checking the file extension to other common compression formats to see if it was a case of misnaming; no dice. I've also manually tried to check "C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Local\Temp" while keeping the error window open, but with no luck in finding the files and grabbing them manually.

I checked the first file: is a html page to download a file from a dropbox account.
You must change the extension to .html, double click and you can download the file

That's still an error, the download links are supposed to be direct.

Beginning of the file (txt encoding of hex code)

<!DOCTYPE html><html lang="en" xmlns:fb="http://ogp.me/ns/fb#" xml:lang="en" class="" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><head>.            <script type="text/javascript">.

This is not a zip file. But as CUE said, it is actually a html shortcut to a dropbox account.

Yup, this is a mistake. Depending on how you get the link to the file, if you enter the URL into your browser you'll get a direct download, but when RHDN Bot downloads the file, it is served a download page instead. This is why I keep telling everyone to use "Copy public link" in explorer's context menu. You have to change "https" to "http", but other than that, the link always works the way it's supposed to.

chetchaka, when you spot a mistake, you can actually fix it yourself. There is an edit button on the page. RHDN is like a moderated wiki. It is community-maintained. You can edit most content yourself. We're just here to rubber-stamp it.
