Hey all,

Although a bunch of you probably don't know me (except for some of you oldskewl romhackers), I've been following the romhacking and game translation community for several years.  I remember when I first joined the IRC channel #romhack on efnet back in 1996.  :)

For the last bunch of years I've been working in the game industry in a variety of roles and I've become aware that much of the folks in my industry don't know about what happens to games 15-20 years after they have been released.  I think it would be an eye-opening experience to talk about what people have done with games several years after their release.  This is the impetus for proposing a romhacking talk to Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2014 which will take place March 17-21 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.

The reason I'm bringing this to the RHDN forum is because I'd like to open this up to see who would want to participate.  If you're interested in participating, please feel free to send me a private message.  If you would like to recommend someone to me, please respond to this message or send me a private message describing who the person is, what this person has done, and why he/she would be ideal for this panel.  Keep in mind I'm only having a total of 6 people on this panel (plus me as the moderator).  I intend to have 3 people who have worked on translation projects and 3 who have worked in general hacks (graphics, full game edits, utilities, etc).

Please note that if this discussion is accepted by UBM or my industry group, the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) and you agree to participate on the panel, you will receive a FREE Speaker Pass which is the direct equivalent of an All Access Pass to GDC, a $2,100 value.  This is the top pass for the conference and you will have access to everything offered at GDC.  You will however have to pay for travel, lodging, and food.  Though speakers do get free lunches.

I look forward to hearing from you!  :D

I'd say Gideon would be a shoe in here. Even people who barely understand romhacking know about Aeon Genesis.

Good Luck with finding people to spend the money for travel, etc. I have a stereotypical vision of romhackers and I think most of us wouldn't have the dough. But honestly good luck finding speakers or support. Nice work.

When you say people who've worked on translation projects, do you just mean in terms of programming or does that include translation?

Edit: oh shit, i remember you hoky

Hoky ran this by me on IRC before the post even went live. I've already tentatively agreed to do it.

Is this the sort of conference / panel likely to be filmed and shown publicly later? Sounds like a fascinating panel and I'd love to hear developers reactions to it.

RedComet

After Gideon, Tomato is the next name that comes to mind.
Twilight Translations - More than just Dragonball Z. :P

Lariria

Too bad Kingcom/KC and Gemini would never be able to fly out of Europe to attend this. It'd be awesome.

There is a GDC Europe :V

They seem to Vault everything these days, but it might not be put into the free section.
we are in a horrible and deadly danger

If I didn´t spend all my money in South America and weren´t on the verge of bankruptcy I wouldn´t mind travelling to take part in this. Cést la vie.
