I remember hearing about this project years and years back... can anyone give a brief summary of what this demo covers? (or what this project even was about? D: )

The demo has the full playable game up until about the Floating Continent. As my signature indicates, there are bugs fixed. The vast majority of these bugs are crushed in order to either restore balance, or to otherwise kill exploits. The RNG was redone entirely to make sure fairness is extended to friend and foe alike. The story is getting tweaked (it will skew the farther along you get), and there's a lot more content overall (hopefully). At some point, we hope to add in a few dungeons that AREN'T named the Dragon's Den. We still have a lot to do with the "second half" as well.

Based on the readme, I'm not sure what the goal of this hack exactly is, as it isn't a pure bugfix collection.

On spell name changes: I'm not sure if removing the numbers look worse or better, but at least these changes agitate me:

Bio    -> Virus
X-Zone -> Dezone
Quick  -> Wall
Haste2 -> Hasteja         (-ga?)
Slow 2 -> Slowja            (-ga?)
Antdot -> Basuna

Unless their function also changed. But then it isn't a spell name change anymore. Other name changes range from acceptable to good.

The hack is a massive overhaul of the game. Story, mechanics, bugfixes, balance, you name it.

Like the readme says, the name changes are meant to agitate people. People dislike change, for whatever the reason. We're saying "get over it," in the most blunt and in-your-face way possible. It is a hack, and in a hack, things are subject to change.

As for the spell names, some names were changed to follow a more conventional format, some names were changed because functionality changed, and some names we changed just for the hell of it.
