What a deeply puzzling line.  Like saying Harrison Ford is best known for his work on American Graffiti.

Is it? The book is about the Untold History. Mr Tokita has been interviewed on FF4 extensively, and Parasite Eve, and other mainstream games.

I've only seen some interview material on L-A-L, which is a shame, because he mentioned it was his first game in full control, so it's special to him. I also like it because of its experimental nature. So I want to spend time discussing this. Plus his role as artist on Square's Tom Sawyer game, and his adaptation of the Parasite Eve novel.

I might not even mention the words Final and Fantasy in the interview. It's all about the cognitio enigmatica.

Lilinda

Don't ask him about Minstrel Show: The RPG please. Please. It's the most horribly racist NES game ever and I'm sure most would rather forget it exists.

I'd like to hear more about Live A Live but also Parasite Eve.  Parasite Eve deals with some weirdly sexual themes so I would like it if you could ask about why the choice in directing it towards that, particularly with regards to pregnancy and childbirth.  I doubt he's ever been asked questions like that with regards to the game, and it's something I'm really curious about.

In the novel mitochondria are inherited through the female line of descent, so there's always been that over-arching layer of motherhood present in the work.
"Remember when we were in Japan? You said you were my gun, if you're the gun then that means I'm the bullet."

"All my life I've been waiting for the gunpowder to go off, you know what you need to ignite gunpowder? You need a gun."

Yeah, but it doesn't really explain why that's an overarching theme.  Stuff like that is kind of rare in Japanese society or any society.  Seriously, aside from expecting mothers, how often does society actually talk about motherhood (aside from maybe the occasion where bible thumpers want to shame supporters of contraception/abortion)?

I want to ask him if he read the book, and how he managed to push through all of it.

I think the PE book to game adaptation that took place is a master class example in how to turn something slow, turgid and excruciatingly boring, into something expertly paced and wildly thrilling.

Seriously, how do you get a game so good, out of a book so mind bogglingly awful?

Next Gen Cowboy

I really couldn't say how it was accomplished, but I'm itching to find out.

I really do adore the game for a number of reasons. The subtext of motherhood really does run through the entirety of it, which is something I didn't think about when I originally played it. Having a female lead at that time in an Eastern RPG is also something outside of the norm, and something else I'd be very interested in learning more about; how was it handled? Was there resistance to the idea either because of marketing or the concept of gender roles?

As for my admiration of the original PE, all I have to say is that it's the first game game I bought when they started releasing PS1 Cassics, just so I didn't have to scuff up my hard copy anymore.

Have either of you seen the movie? I haven't, but I'm curious how much/if any, of that adaptation was implemented.

PE1 has some serious writing, pacing and translation issues, but damn if it don't establish atmosphere and have great gameplay and music.

Yeah Parasite Eve 2 is a clusterfuck, but the original is a masterpiece and also a product of its time (see Final Fantasy Tactics and its... "translation")

Mr. Keiji Inafune & his company has made a Kickstarter about their new game called Mighty No. 9. Their goal is to reach $900,000 in 30 days(!?), & as of this time its about $450,000! If anyone is interested to backup this project more, please do!  :-[

Plus, you can win a dinner w/ Inafking himself if you pledged high enough LOL!

Personally, I think the $99 and $120 brackets are the best donation to reward ratio. The last two are funny though, $9999 for all the benefits and a dollar more for dinner with Inafune. If I could give that kind of cash I would show up with a trunk full of Mega Man memorabilia for him to sign (yeah I would be THAT guy  >:D).

It's about to hit $700,000

It's at 870,000 now so it is practically backed. I am somewhat excited for this game but there are two things that keeps me from backing it...

1. We don't know how well the transformation mechanic is handled
2. I absolutely refuse to use a credit card

I heard toward the end of some kickstarter auctions debit cards are allowed.

Lilinda

You can use a debit card through KS. I've done it before like three times.

How about a prepaid credit card?

*edit*

I gave a quick look to the character design and also the story. It looks a little similar to you-know-what.
I was wondering, do they risk issue copyright-wise or if it different enough?

I could foresee that it would reach its goal of $400k, however, it looks like it would just do only that...  :(
At this rate, it would only reach about $500k or less. I hope I'm wrong!  :-\

KyleRXZero

I know there are a lot of interesting kickstarters out there right now(Mighy No. 9/Shantae/etc.). But this one needs love too.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/combitstudios/river-city-ransom-underground

Its a sequel to the classic nes game River City Ransom. This game looks awesome so far.  :)

Piotyr

I don't know why people keep trying to make sequals to a game with a buttload. It could be good but I can get you a remake of one of the better sequals out there.

Lilinda

Almost all of those sequels were Japanese, though. And IIRC, there isn't a true sequel so much as either shit set in the same universe or alt universe shit using the same characters.
