They might not be familiar with the Woolsey translation

Neither am I, but I do believe his work should be appreciated.

He is an underrated legend after all.

Jesus christ, what did I walk into?

I realize we're over it now, but some advice, Rodimus: next time this happens, just take a step back, take a deep breath, and just take a day off or two from working on this. Trust me when I say that working on this every single day and reading critical comments about it every single day is going to drive you mad.

Yeah. This is your project. You know what you're doing, so do whatever you want.

Some of us may want to help, but there are others that're just stupid fodder that you should best ignore.

I've yet to download this hack, because when it comes to romhacks, I prefer to have final/ultimate versions of said patches with great reviews and no future updates (except for addendums). I've yet to know if I should download this, or keep waiting.

I will admit this though, I have never played (or played beyond) any of the first six Final Fantasy games, which is weird because the first time I tried playing them, I went with Dawn of Souls for GBA, but over the years many purists had kept saying that the GBA remakes are "bad remakes", and that I should play the originals. They mainly say this because of the audio, which is ironic because audio patches for the GBA remakes exist in here. (I don't even know what's everybody's opinion on the Final Fantasy PSP remakes.)

Even if you use the audio patch, it will sound off when played on an emulator. Even on hardware, the audio quality is compressed and inferior to what you hear on SNES. The aspect ratio is also much smaller than on SNES so some concessions had to be made there, and while it doesn't outright ruin scenes, it's kinda like watching a movie in fullscreen. The font they use is also rather ugly. Some bugs were added and there is noticeable lag/slowdown at points. And the bonus dungeons are horrible and out-of-place, as is tradition with Square re-releases.

I honestly feel like the GBA remakes are really good, as they were my personal introduction to the series. I really don't think that the audio patches actually help, a lot of songs actually sound worse last time I played them. The audio honestly isn't that bad, though yes, the SNES version is superior.

Spooniest

FF6 has been an emotional rollercoaster since romhacking became a thing.

Lenophis (a respected and storied RHDN member) will tell you, this is a nightmare of slapdash code fixes and out-of-order text entries. It is not to be taken lightly. Working on FF6 is your basic "beyond entry level" romhacking. If you can deal with shit like this (apologies for the swear but it is necessary), then you can do romhacking.

The story is nuanced and deep. The coding is a ***MESS***. And the scope of what you are taking on is a punch in the gut.

Rodimus, I will swallow my Saiyan Pride and offer to playtest this for you. Go ahead and send me something...

It's not like Stand Guard has been looked at in a while.
Yamero~~!

If anyone else is willing to play-test or take a peek at the script as it stands for the next update, here's a link to it. If you find any typos, feel free to let me know so I can fix them right away:

FFVI - TWUE 2.06 beta

Here's some pastebin copies of the script:

Testing would go a lot faster by going through these scripts and editing! For example, just by scrolling through:

I'm an Imperial Trooper! <D>
Probably, the last of 'em_

You don't need a comma after Probably

Hopefully I'll have some time over the weekend/next week to go through these thoroughly, and hopefully other users will use that time to do so as well. Then, all that'll be left will be playtesting!

Don't let these comments get under your skin, your mod's almost at 30000 downloads so there has to be quite a lot of people that do want it. If it's a line that was changed then I think you should be open to feedback and other's opinions, but with that being said you've already given your viewpoint on the bear/bodybuilder thing and if you've decided that the line is final then you can just ignore any further feedback on it and leave it as is. I think the line is fine given what you were going for.

I'm sure pretty much everyone that posts in this thread thinks you've done a great job on the mod even if they don't actually say it, so don't get upset about people popping in and dropping their 2 cents on whatever is being discussed (including me :o). They don't mean any harm by it and there's nothing wrong with you ignoring them if you don't care for what they have to say, or if you've explained yourself already.

As for people complaining about pointless crap like how often you're updating your mod, you should definitely just ignore them and do your thing. There's always going to be someone like that around that loves to complain about every little thing since they have nothing better to do with their time.

I see the mod is still up for now (and I hope it can stay that way), so I'll go ahead and post what else I've found on my playthrough.

heaven should be lowercase here I believe

checkpoint can be 1 word

Clockmaker can be 1 word

This line is fine I think, but Kefka's soldiers during the assault on Figaro Castle at the start of the game would say "Sir" capitalized. After thinking about it I'm pretty sure it should be lowercase, but either way it should be made consistent.

jump-rope is usually just 2 words without the hyphen whenever I've seen it

Another capitalized Sir

judgment is the usual spelling

Having this guard say cometh is kind of strange imo since Cyan is usually the only one to do the ye olde english thing.

stitched

seems like it should be til instead of till, since it's short for until

description says "gloves" plural, but name of item is a singular glove

knuckles

hyphen can be removed for "still life" I think

lots

Okay! I didn't see this since you edited it in after, but I've fixed those now. To fix the descriptions properly, I am changing Kaiser Claws to KaiserKnucks and Genji Glove to GenjiGloves. I fixed a few more things found from Spooniest as well. I noticed that the spacing in between lots was ONLY in one of the two script files I have (since one uses the updated Opera script).

Please don't. If you don't have space enough, i much prefer a shorter alternative name that sounds and looks good, instead of a larger name that trips my 'dat ain't right' sense.

I can keep it as Kaiser Claws and then change the description to be "Set of of spiked knuckle claws imbued with holy might."

As for Genji Glove, it kind of makes sense to be plural since its a weapon in each hand. It does look okay without the space but does look better with.

I don't mind the name changes, cause the purpose of these name abbreviations are to keep up with the series' contemporary terminologies.

KaizerKnucks = Kaizer Knuckles
GenjiGloves = Genji Gloves

Abbreviations in names were quite common when localizing games to the west, so I wouldn't be too surprised with the direction this route is taking.

Well all things considered, calling them Kaiser Claws does LOOK better and having the description read "Set of of spiked knuckle claws imbued with holy might." works as well.

I am going with GenjiGloves though, which again works well for what the Relic actually does.

I decided to submit the next update for approval. Version 2.06 has all of the corrections and updates seen in this thread so far, and there's a couple of lines that were updated not seen in the Pastebin. BIG thanks to Spooniest, Dzumeister, and wakkoswami for playing through. If you guys find ANYTHING else that needs correcting, please feel free to let me know.

Agreed!
@Rodimus Primal
I have really enjoyed this project from the start and have been impressed by how faithful it stays to Ted's original work.   The whiners and complainers are of no consequence. Ignore them. Carry on good sir!

Hello Rodimus. I'm a big fan of this romhack and i beat the game with older versions of it multiple times. I'm also a fan of your FFIV romhack which might as well be the official version of FFIV. Is my favorite romhack ever, up there with the amazing BoFII romhack by Ryusui. I created this account just to ask you about another romhack through, because i trust your opinion.

I've been wanting to experience the GBA script of VI for a while now. I love Woolsey's charm, but atleast once i want to check out a more accurate one, just to spot the differences. But we all know the limitations of the GBA port. While looking for a romhack that used the GBA script on the SNES version, i found the Relocalization Project. It seems he tried to do with the gba script what you did with the SNES.

What do you think about that project? Have you tried it? Is it quality?

Thank you for your amazing work!
