Pretty excited about this. Do you think you might eventually tackle Star Ocean Blue Sphere? Now that's a GBC game I really wish had a translation.

You are probably already aware but Star Ocean: Blue Sphere is on the active project list at Aeon Genesis.   I've been waiting eagarly for that one as well.  It will happen!  Last news it was 60% complete.

Hey everyone, just an update to say that this project is very much NOT dead and never will be. It's taking awhile but me and USC both have full-time jobs outside of this project. I am actually just right now about to send more screenshots to him.

Somebody asked if my GameFAQ will include instructions for all the endings. To be honest, that might be the ONLY thing my GameFAQ includes. I'm a very concise person, and quite frankly if you need step-by-step instructions on how to explore every screen of the island, well... You're up a creek. I will probably make a very concise guide on how to get all of the endings and craft all necessary objects.

I feel confident in saying that this project will be released by Christmas at the absolute very latest. That being said, I really hope it doesn't take that long. But this isn't my full-time job.

Awesome to hear!

Hi I don't know how things are done here and I may be out of line to say this but I am just wondering if you may release the game earlier and GAMEFAQ separately. Or is releasing them at the same time a way to prevent another from making a guide before you do ? Myself I am just excited to play the game and will not likely use a FAQ. Not trying to be rude or step on anyone's toes just curious.

Nathan.

The patch is not finished. It will be released when it is released.

USC

Just wanted to update everyone on some exciting news!
One of the stumbling blocks we'd been dealing with in this project was the Sixth Ending, which requires a link cable to access. We finally found a GBC emulator that supports linking (VBA only works on GBA games, unfortunately), so we can actually complete the game now!

There are a couple of other areas in the game that also seem to require a link cable, so we'll get those covered too.

ChronoMoogle

I love how you care about the details which are hardly emulated yet
Waiting for this translation with my fingers crossed that your high motivation doesn't cool down. You guys are awesome!

hattontown

"High motivation doesn't cool down"? Pah!

This is the last time I'm gonna say it :

This translation is getting finished. It's not going to be stuck in development forever. And we promise that we will release it the moment we declare it "done."

Rest easy :)

But according to that Ren_Fern post on the previous page, I thought you didn't need a link cable to see that 6th ending? (is it an extra scene or an actual 6th ending?)

USC

Reyvgm: Yes and no. Ren_Fern's way *works* but it's not the way the game wants you to do it (in fact, there are several cutscenes specifically telling you not to do it)...it's also *REALLY* hard and involves taking advantage of a glitch in the programming. Basically, it's like trying to swim against a really strong current when there's a path already marked. :)
(Also, you miss out on an item or two, as well as dialogue that explains stuff).

As for the sixth ending...
Spoiler
...it's registered as a sixth ending on the in-game chart, but it's an extra epilogue for any of the other endings. You need to see it for 100% completion, however.

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know I just sent another translation session to USC and sat down to play-test more of the patch. It's been awhile since I poked around in the English version, lately I've spent more of my time on the Japanese side, and I was blown away at how everything is coming along because of USC's work. Countless times I've passed USC a translation that simply won't fit into the allotted character count. (As you may know, Japanese is more compact than English in terms of letters/characters, but we can't expand the amount of characters.) Yet in every case, USC has done a fantastic job preserving the original meaning despite the constricted space.

In short, because of him you'll soon be able to play the version of SK2 you wish hit store-shelves years ago.

I'd also like to thank you again for your constant support. I never thought I would move to Japan, ever. I never thought I would learn Japanese. If you told me when I was an 11-year-old kid, reading a magazine's preview of SK2, "You will translate this game," I would have told you you are crazy. This thread has received over 12,000 views, several people have joined the forum just to thank us for our work, and I never thought I'd get a volunteer partner from the internet as dedicated as USC.

The project is nearing completion. We have no release date yet. We want to make sure we release a complete translation, so that you can have the experience you wish you had years ago, every contingency tested. As always, thanks for your patience and support.

Cestius

Sweet can't wait good work on the project     :)         ;)

USC

Aw, you're making me blush. XD

In related news, I've figured out the level layout format and palette!

I removed one of the trees to the right of the player, so you can just walk around the boulder without having to use a link cable.
(This isn't the final layout by the way, so feel free suggest how to make it prettier/better fitting)

If I ever get crazy enough, I might make a map editor for this game...:)

ChronoMoogle

Nice idea! But can you make this an optional patch? The Everdrive GB is out, so linking is actually possible to quite some people now ;)

USC

Oh, definitely. I actually used KGIB up until now for testing the link cable stuff - it just required two computers and was kind of annoying. :)
Thanks for mentioning Everdrive GB though; I planned on making a cart when we get the final game done, and that looks like a perfect way to do it.
