Xdelta Gui
« on: April 16, 2013, 03:39:57 am »
I am curious does anyone know where I can find a xdelta gui? I am not talking about xdelta3, i am trying to find something a gui that use only Xdelta 1.0.  It seems like everything has been changed xdelta3 and I need something with the original xdelta.

I don't know or care about a GUI (pssh), but you can find the original xdelta program in many Linux distributions.

Such as Debian:
Code: [Select]
$ apt-cache show xdelta
Package: xdelta
Version: 1.1.3-9
Installed-Size: 100
Maintainer: LaMont Jones <lamont@debian.org>
Architecture: amd64
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.2.5), libglib2.0-0 (>= 2.16.0), libxdelta2 (>= 1.1.3), zlib1g (>= 1:1.1.4)
Description-en: A diff utility which works with binary files
 Xdelta is an application program designed to compute changes between
 files.  These changes (deltas) are similar to the output of the
 "diff" program in that they may be used to store and transmit only the
 changes between files.  However, unlike diff, the output of Xdelta is
 not expressed in a human-readable format--Xdelta can also apply
 these deltas to a copy of the original file.  Xdelta uses a fast,
 linear algorithm and performs well on both binary and text files.

You might actually be in luck as many of the earlier ROM hacking uses of xdelta were the older version ( http://www.evanjones.ca/software/xdelta-win32.html - the 3.0 line had not really done an awful lot and 2.0 was not terribly windows friendly) and a few people did make token UI programs.

If you are making a patch I do not suggest 1.0 any more and if you are updating a patch then it is probably worth porting it to 3.0. http://filetrip.net/nds-downloads/utilities/download-xdeltaui-mod-10-f17554.html and KaioShin's original one are where I would start looking. This said if it is just for a single patch you might as well learn the command line as it is quite simple on the earlier versions and you should be able to make it happen without having to disable checking or whatever like you might on newer versions.

There's also this from Phoenix if you don't like .NET or need more options: http://www.sadnescity.it/tools/patch/deltapatcher_v1.0_win32_bin.7z
The packer contains also a lite version of the GUI (it only applies an xdelta), which can be distributed with a translation or other patches in order to make things simpler for the end user. It's only in Italian, but maybe you could ask Phoenix if he could make an English version as well.

Indeed, Delta Patcher is english by default, if you want to change the languag, you must ship the "resource" directory along with the executable file.
