Registered just to say thanks. ...And to perhaps ask for some assistance compiling the current patch :P But mainly to say thanks - THANKS - I've been wanting to play this in English for YEARS!

I'm a complete noob when it comes to compiling - I've gotten thru the cmake up to the point of hitting generate - it errors looking for allegro include directory - I point it to the folder but hit a wall - here's the output, any assistance would be greatly appreciated, else I will await any further developments! Thanks again!

I also registered to say thank you for your hard work on this... and to request some help with compiling the patch. It seems like some steps may be missing in the readme file or perhaps I just don't know what I'm doing. If anyone could provide a detailed explanation of how to compile the patch from the files on github, I'd really appreciate it and I'm sure others would too.

Or if someone could post a successfully complied patch file we could download, that'd be even better.

Thanks!

Pennywise

I'm gonna guess these files were made available so that someone could freely contribute to the reprogramming of the game and not for someone to use as a WIP patch. I'm assuming that if they wanted people to play this current version, they would've released a patch instead of having to compile the game.

SamIAm

That is correct. This is NOT ready for play yet. The menu doesn't even work, and there are several places where the game crashes due to a script bug.

ZeroXXoreZ

Overly excited I guess :) Keep up the good work! Thank you thank you thank you!

The patch is not yet ready. It's still quite buggy and should only be used by people willing to contribute to the code.

Are you the same guy who works on translation of Anearth fantasy stories and Xanadu 2? If yes that's a lot of projects all at the same time and i hope you have enough energy for everything!

I just found out that Princess Crown was fully translated in a guide written by Andria Sang. The website is down but through web.archive.org it is still accessible.

With all due respect to the huge effort that must have taken...to say that that translation contains embellishments would be putting it mildly. I'll leave it at that.

Although if you're dying for a translation written in Ye Olde Englishe, you'll probably enjoy that one more.

EDIT: Heck, it says it right there on the front page.
Ahem . . ..  One thing to note is that Noopy doesn't speak Japanese fluently.  Come to think of it, I don't speak Japanese fluently either . . . how in Valendia did I manage to communicate with everyone during the game?  Anyhow, when he began the tranlsation, Anoop's Japanese really sucked.  He had to look up just about every Kanji he encountered during the game; he wrote down most of what he encountered, totalling almost 3000 (mostly repeated).   There are some parts that he had to figure out by context, so he apologizes if he got anything wrong (and he's more than willing to change something, if you'd be kind enough to e-mail any errors to him).

Yes, i saw that but for the time being this is the best as it gets.
I found out that you are working on yet another PC-FX translation project! No question when the english patch is released i would be the first one to try it out but i know this cann't happen anytime soon.

There is another Princess Crown translation/guide which filles the holes that Andria Sang left behind especially the ending sequence.

Why exactly are you plugging someone else's translation here? I'm sure he's aware of that Anoop translation, and there's absolutely no need to use it if he's actually translating it from scratch.

Metal Knuckles

Chill out a bit. I'm also sure that CyberWarrior wouldn't have gotten this far in a translation without being aware of other translation groups, but there's no harm in bringing it up in case he didn't know. And it's not like introducing Anoop's text translation is going to draw interest away from this project.

dejan07

I posted it here because this translation is not easy to find and the site is down anyway and now it is only accessible through web.archive.org
Few guys from verve-fanworks.com are also interested in this project especially Zymz. Hooking them all up could possibly speed up the progress on this project.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been replying. I have mail notifications set on, but I haven't been receiving them. Oh well.

Are you planning on changing that font into something more fitting for the game?

The font currently used is likely going to be changed at some point. But right now it's not a priority. However I'll likely keep the font simple. None of this fancy font that no can read garbage.

You need to point those variables to the dependencies it's asking for(In this case, allegro, iconv, libpng development files, etc.). I tried to make it pretty straight-forward. As has already been mentioned, the purpose of providing the build files is to encourage those with a hacking background who want to either take a look for learning or want to assist to do so.

My suggestion if you're new to this sort of stuff and you're in over your head is just wait.

I already talked to Zymz.  :) I think he said he was busy with summer semester right now.

Yes of course, no one wants an unreadable font. But the one used right now doesn't have that videogame look.

If you want, I have a pack of videogame type fonts I've collected over the years. Some might be helpful to you for this project or future ones. You can get it here:

Sure, thanks. Part of the issue with the current font is I still have some issues I have to fix. However the original font wasn't exactly a work of art either. In order for it to really look good it's going to require code changes, etc.

Just registered to say this project looks fantastic! With the rerelease of Odin-sphere coming up, as well as 13-sentinels, and this translation, it's an exciting time to be a vanillaware fan!  I guess I'll start playing the Grand Knights History english patch to pass the time  ;)

Gray_FoxRJ

Any news on this project.  Happy New Year, boys!

LaLaPico

I've been so excited for this project, that I made a Lightscribe label to burn the "English Version" of Princess Crown! I'm still anxiously awaiting when I can pop it in my Saturn :D

I scanned my original CD and edited it in Photoshop to create the Lightscribe label. If anyone wants it, please message me and I can send it. It's about 5 MBs.

I haven't played Princess Crown since I beat it back in ~1999. Maybe a 20 year anniversary playthrough when it's translated!
