Wow really looking forward to this! Only found out about this game after reading through the Dragon's Crown Art Book the other day, and was totally surprised to see a English translation is already in the works! I'm starting to turn into a die hard Vanillaware fan and I can't wait to try this! My Saturn is starting to get pretty dusty...

Anyway, I'm wondering if there's anyone here with a complete copy of Princess Crown (maybe Zoel?) that wouldn't mind scanning the case insert and manual at 600 dpi? (no filters) I'd love to create a high quality, print ready, full English CIB packaging for original US Saturn cases that people can print out if desired. Which could maybe be included with the patch as a cool extra if interested!

Id like to create the manual based on a translation of the original Japanese manual scans, which I would later format to fit the layout of US Saturn manuals. If anyone would be interested in helping out by maybe translating the manual (if good scans can be found) that would be awesome. Otherwise, I may have to track down a translator. Everything will be saved at high quality and the manual will be in a print ready pdf format.

If anyone is interested and can help, please let me know. I'd really like to make this happen! Thanks!

I'd be happy to help with that. I can't scan the manual, but I do have my own copy, and I'm in a good position to keep things consistent with the main translation. :)

For now, though, I'm pretty busy with play-testing. I've got about 40% of it done with plenty of tweaks and fixes added along the way, and I'll probably have to go through the whole thing one additional time to make sure there are no issues. There's also getting the menu to work, ironing out some bugs, and editing text that is stored as graphics (such as the entrance names).

Right on! I was actually going to see if you would be willing to translate the manual for me to make sure everything is consistent with your translation. Thinking of just picking up a copy of Princess Crown for myself (I would like to own a copy). So when I grab a copy Ill just scan everything myself if I have to. I prefer to remove the staples from manuals anyway to scan the pages as flat as possible and then put it back together afterwards. Something I'm sure others may not be comfortable with.

But absolutely, the game translation should be priority. Ill do what I can until you have some free time. I already have a start with manual cover finished. And the template is all set up for the case insert. Just going to need a little more art resources to finish it up which I should get from the manual scans. And Ill need screenshots as well, so if you can provide some when the translation is finished that would help. I suppose I can always take them myself when I recapture all the screens for the manual. Here's what I have for the cover art so far if you want to see what I'm going for:  http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p191/BaddyChaddy/PCMC_zpsb5089758.png

I actually own a copy of Virtual Hydlide for the Saturn which was also released by Atlus, so I'm basing the template design off of that since it's most likely what it would have resembled had it actually been released.

Anyway, really happy you've expressed interest in my project. I'll keep in touch with updates!

Update: I'm now basically finished with my first playthrough, which I did on a real Saturn. First of all, it worked, so hooray! Second, I spent a lot of time doing script tweaking based on context that I was missing before, and that took care of a lot of important problems. Looking at some scenes again after this edit in particular, I'm feeling pretty good with the way this project is turning out. :)

Next is to wait for the hacking hurdles to be overcome. There are three big ones:

1. Settle on a print routine, possibly introducing a VWF.
2. Get the text that appears at the bottom of the screen to display properly. This window is used for both the item descriptions and the battle text. Right now, it's always empty.
3. Extract and edit graphical text. This includes the map, the room/path labels, and the thing at the load screen that says はじめから.

Once at least #1 is taken care of, and ideally #2 as well, I'll go in for a second and hopefully final playthrough using Yabause. There are roughly two dozen trouble spots in the game where we'll have to get savestates to solve the bugs behind them. I'll also do my final tweaking and take care of any issues with lines being too long to fit in text boxes, which could get tough but hopefully won't.

If anyone wants to lend a hand with the hacking, the door is still open. :)

Talbain

Sounds like a lot of work, hope the hacking isn't too difficult.  Sadly that was the main problem with the hacking for Magna Carta.  Inserting item names became an exercise in futility.

SamIAm

Speak of the devil, CyberWarriorX just figured out a problem with his item name dumper, and as soon as we reformat the English text, we may be good to go!

Here's hoping it's that simple, anyway.

Sounds awesome!  (I hope it's that simple too.)

Man I can't wait for this!  If you guys still need help with graphical text edits, I've got more than a decade of industry graphic design experience and would love to help if needed. I don't know what all is involved, but I would be happy to help!

Gray_FoxRJ

This project should have its own personal page, like Tales of Vesperia (PS3) and Policenauts!

Nah, it attracts too many beggars and unwanted attention.

It's been oddly quiet recently, hopefully that's due to the team being deeply engrossed in playing the game and savoring every minute :)

Hey Princess Crown Team, how are things going?  Any kind of teases of how progress is coming along?

SamIAm

Things have been on pause for a bit as CyberWarriorX does some work for his Saturn emulator, Yabause. I've been busy with real-life work and haven't wanted to bother him, but I just emailed CyberWarriorX for the first time in a while for a status update.

No good teases, sorry.

ardend

Thanks for the update Sam, I know how the real work thing can kill free time.  Keep up the awesome work, both of you!

I didn't know of this project!!! I knew of the scripts translated that were around the internet, but to be able to play it directly in-game. Amazing!!! Thanks a lot, really. I really enjoyed Odin Sphere and I'm planning on buying Dragon's Crown soon, so this is great news.

Pennywise

It's ironic that it's Thanksgiving for us Americans (This seems to include the people doing the translation) and instead of giving thanks, you are whining. Keep waiting.

StorMyu

It wasn't even a complaint. And everyone at RHDN isn't from America. Get over yourself.

For my part I have a real question:
- If someone ever ends up making the PSP translation possible would you mind sharing the script ?
