Don't worry, we're working on it.

I just finished doing formatting work on the main script today. It should be completely ready for insertion now. The last step is to play-test it.

Well, that and get the menu stuff done. Anyway, it's coming.

Does that mean that all character paths are translated or just a select few? Keep up the great work!

Yep, all character paths. Absolutely 100% of the dialogue is translated, edited, proofed and formatted. The only thing that remains to be dumped is the speech bubble that pops up when Gradriel does her special during battle.

Once play-testing starts, I expect to do a couple of touch-ups based on how things look in the actual game, but the script is essentially done. Most of the menu stuff is at least dumped, but getting it back in is a challenge that remains for CyberwarriorX.

It really is mostly a matter of hacking at this point. Perhaps it would be better to get it straight from the horse's mouth, but I think that if there is currently room for each piece of the English script in the system RAM during the scene when it is loaded, then we're in good shape. The aforementioned menu hacking (and translating) will be the last big hurdle, and hopefully it won't be too bad.

If there isn't room at the moment, then that will take a while to deal with, but I think there's been no sign of trouble so far.

Oh yeah, there is the matter of fixing some of the spellings on the in-game map. I'd be sad if we had to leave "DWALF LAND" in there.

CyberWarriorX and SamAmI, I am really grateful to know you guys are working at this Vanillaware Masterpiece. I am as anxious as I was while waiting Grand Knight History translation patch, it is not fully translated (just the menus and itens) though.

I am looking foward to play this game with your translation. A question. The PSP version uses kind a saturn emulator. Would It be possible also to apply this patch in the PSP version?

tryphon

No, the PSP version doesn't use a Saturn emulator. Read my previous post on the subject.

Sadly, this just isn't true. I can't find it right now, I'm pretty sure everyone thinks this only because of a specific interview with an Atlus rep where he says it's emulated. But believe me, he misspoke. CyberwarriorX as well as tryphon earlier in the thread have looked into the PSP version, and it's essentially been reprogrammed. There is no SH-2 code in it whatsoever, and the graphics have all been reformatted.

The one useful thing is that the PSP version does apparently use the same event-data, which is where the script is stored, as the Saturn version. If tryphon or whoever else wants to use the Saturn translation in the PSP version, then they'll probably be able to skip the step of converting the script. It's just a matter of inserting the it in a way that lets it work, and getting the text to display.

Fake edit: Hey tryphon, how goes the PSP hacking? You are definitely more than welcome to use my translation. If you want to, I can send you the current version.

By the way, the original Saturn version and the "Satakore" Saturn version do actually have some slight differences, and I think the script also has a couple tweaks here and there. It would be interesting to see which one the PSP version uses, and/or if there are other changes in the PSP script. PM me if you want to talk more about this.

Update: The script is fully inserted. I am now play-testing on a real Saturn and doing (hopefully) the last touch-ups.

The font looks very nice. We might just leave it as a fixed width font like in the screenshots CyberWarriorX posted. It's perfectly clear on a CRT, too, so nobody worry.

Line length is still a bit of an issue. If we don't use a VWF, we might wind up formatting some lines a little differently. Instead of starting the dialogue under the character name, it saves a lot of space to start it next to the name.

The menu etc. stuff is now translated and awaits insertion. We'll see how that goes! Anyway, things are looking good.

Are you going to use the exact same font as the one in the screenshots?

It's probable, but definitely not for certain. I think CyberWarriorX wants to try getting a VWF going to see what it looks like. Frankly, I think a really efficient VWF would look kind of funny. The FWF we have going right now seems appropriate enough to me, but there may be a significant advantage to saving space with a VWF.

Comments about the font are welcome, I suppose.

DrROBschiz

Woohoo!

Awesome news! Thanks for the update! Can't wait to finally try this one out

Princess Crown and Dragon's Crown being released in the same year. Fucking perfect.

Yeah I asked because that font is ugly :P

Well ok, not ugly, but very basic/standard. It would be nice if you found another font that feels more videogame-like :)

Ha ha, all right, I'll keep that down as feedback.

The reason why I find the current font fairly agreeable is because the original Japanese font has a similar kind of "line-y" quality to it. It's almost never more than one pixel thick, its edges are rounded in a similar way, and it's modestly decorated. VWF or FWF, I think a chunky-style SNES font or a heavily stylized font would look really funny. If you remember the start-up sequence, this whole game is a book that a little girl is having her grandma read her. It should be simple, thin, and not very mechanical.

I'd ask for suggestions, but first I need to figure out exactly what the parameters for the current font are. We'll either go fixed-with at the current dimensions or variable-width at something very close.

BRPXQZME

To be fair, while tonally appropriate, proportionwise the original Japanese font is also ugly ;D
we are in a horrible and deadly danger

I agree, the font seems a little bland. Not a big deal of course, but something that does a little to "capture the mood/background" of the game would be the icing on the cake.

mystikorion

so the game is 100% translated?? is there a patch yet?

vincent_vincent

Easy^, we are almost there, don't bug them now, just set down and behave for a little more.
