@Burnt Lasagna so I could have just patched it to my iso instead of just burning a copy?   :banghead:
This isn't exactly the topic for this discussion,
Though you could have mounted that ISO to a virtual drive and then ripped to ISO/WAV from there for patching, as stated in the readme.

Not sure how I missed this!

Looks Amazing! Been wanting to finally play this game in English for ages!

I really hope it comes together smoothly!!!

Can't wait, I wonder if this'll be possible on actual hardware...

Looks great, want to see more!  Super excited to see Vanillaware's early works!

WOW!!! I had to join just so I can say thanks for taking this on!  I have been waiting AGES to play this game in english!  Is there a website or anything we can check out for progress? Or should we just keep an eye on this thread?

Cargodin

Well hot diggity dog is this exciting. Princess Crown is a really fun game, and it's tragic that it never did see a localization officially before, or even the PSP port. Tippin my hat, godspeed.

Just a question. Would it be possible to actually replace the files for the Saturn translation into the PSP iso and repackage it? I've crawled in through the iso a couple times before, and it seems that the files are indeed similar.

tryphon

The data files in the PSP version are those from the Saturn, but the code is different.

Just thought I'd post a little update.

I've recently finished editing the script. The hacking side is nearing completion as well. It's hard to give a release date, but I think it's fairly likely that we'll have it finished before the year is out, and possibly quite a bit earlier.

I'm working on the PSP version. What did you have to hack in the Saturn Version (to make an idead of what remains) ?

For the time being I've just implemented a VWF in the dialogues.

Lentfilms

Great news Sam! Very happy to see this project moving along so smoothly.

Sweet. I had recently ordered an original Saturn copy, hoping emulators can handle it. Can they?

I believe so, yes. CyberWarriorX, the hacker side of this little operation, is (one of?) the main coder(s) of the emulator Yabause, so even if it's not 100% emulated at the moment, it should be soon. Right now, I'm sure it's at least playable.

I'm not sure, you'll have to ask CyberWarriorX. Actually, he might be interested to know more about your VWF.

tryphon

No problem, but contrary to what have been said, the PSP version doesn't emulate the Saturn one : the engine has been rewritten, only datas files are reused (I'm not 100% sure), so I don't think my code will be of great help for you.

SamIAm

Yeah, I actually heard about that from him. Still, I think he's currently finalizing how the text will display in the game, and he might be interested to learn what you've got going all the same.

Or maybe not. I dunno.

As an owner of both the PSP and Saturn, my preference is definitely the PSP.  My Saturn collects dust these days.  However, I'm not one to bite the hand that feeds me and am definitely pleased to see it finally being translated.

I do have an issue though and that's with the font used in the screenshots.  No way will old SDTVs display that super thin font and still be readable from across the room.  SDTV is still the proper way to play old games and it's also the reason thick fonts were created in the first place.

Fantastic.

We'll be play-testing on SDTVs. If it's a problem, we'll fix it. Something tells me it won't be, though. Saturn composite video is pretty clear. The Japanese font uses 1 pixel-wide lines, and it comes through just fine.

wyndcrosser

That's great, I can't wait to see if it runs on real hardware. Nothing beats that :)

Again, Great work.
