I'm glad you fixed up the pages. I machine translated your page and didn't understand everything it said. Your CV2 English retranslation is great.

MathUser2929

Your english retranslation is good and all but it would have been nice if you used all the text box space like you did in the finish translation. I like the translations on that webpage and it's a shame they couldn't all be fit in.

I did use the available text space. But in both versions (Finnish and re-translation) there were lines that did not require that much room.
Now the English text in the re-translation was translated in only three hours, based on my notes for the Finnish version, so it can still use some improvements...  But it is by no means constrained to the 5x13 character format of the North American / European releases. My comparison page does not list the re-translated English text.
Re: Machine translation, I added actual translations to the patch vending machine as tooltips; they now also cover the explanations for the options.

(Further discussion of the CV2 translations should probably be redirected & these posts as well moved into a topical thread by a moderator.)

Hello guys, been a member for a while, but no posts.

I signed up hoping to find someone that can code for SNES or at least hack it, have source code and full permission and everything!  I am planning on releasing new SNES games with somewhat big production runs.

Hopefully this is the right place!

Thank you!

Did you try nesdev as well?

Actually I've been trying to do a personal hack of Earthbound.
It's basically an Ed, Edd, N Eddy version. The sprites are awesome
and all, but I'm having a hard time with the scripting text :(
I wish I had some help. Anyone wanna see pics of the sprites I edited?

Pikachumanson

Sure, you should make a thread about it stating what issues you are having

Bisqwit:  Wow!  Good to see you!
Recognised the name from the old DeJap staff.  You've certainly done some good work over the years.

Didn't happen to use one of those automatic key-entry things speedrunners use to type that emulator up, did you?

Krotar

Hiya. I'm a 21 year-old Game-Design major. I've only done a tiny bit of ROM hacking before (Made a custom sprite sheet for my trainer in Pokemon Black/White. Couldn't swap all the graphics I wanted to, though, because I was using pre-made tools).

I took three semesters of Japanese, but I've been having trouble motivating myself to learn more (3 semesters teaches surprisingly little at my college). I figured a good way to brush up and learn new vocabulary (and get a nice portfolio piece to boot) would be try doing some translation. I picked Shirogane no Juukishin Liger Zero for GBC (I already had a copy and I figured I'd like to understand it better).

I got an account here 'cuz I'm kinda at a loss. I've been following the tutorials here as best I can, and now I've got like 11 MB of programs that I don't know how to use and tutorials I can't understand. From what I can figure, before I dump the game's text, I need a table that lists the hex for where each character is stored in the game's graphics. I can find the text graphics in Tile Layer Pro, but I can't find what their hex values are. I THINK I've found the hex values for the English characters in Hexecute, but I can't find any Japanese text (when try to search for it, hexecute can't read the text. It just displays a blank box in the search, even though my computer has Japanese fonts and can display Japanese text just fine).

'Course I realize the introduction thread probably isn't the right place to go requesting help in. If someone could point me in the direction of the right sub-forum (or better yet, a thread that already explains finding hex for Japanese text so I don't need to make my own thread and clutter the place up), that'd be great!  :-[

The Sweeper

Hey!  I'm very new to this, but I'm wanting to give rom hacking a go as it appears to be a hobby that doesn't require any monetary upkeep.

My goal is to westernize Survival Kids 2 for GBC.

Right now I'm navigating my way through the FAQs.  Would anyone have any advice for a complete beginner?

Pikachumanson

Read, read, and read some more. Then experiment, learn the rom inside and out. Learn your system's architecture, learn it's programming language and be veery patient. It takes years to get good at romhacking.

LocksmithArmy

Hey guys,
Im LocksmithArmy. I usually hang around lockpicking forums and make lockpicking youtube videos... but ive loved video games much longer than ive loved lockpicking so hacking them eventually became something I wanted to do...

Im not that skilled, I am learning though. I have made and am attempting to release 2 simple hacks (of pokemon red and gold where you can catch all the pokemon without trading) they are in the "Submission Queue Status" page right now... I hope to see them in their own "RHDN Project Page"s soon ;) for everyone to enjoy'

I have alot to learn and I have been told this is the place to learn it all... so here I am ;)

thanks guys

Hello LocksmithArmy. I find it interesting how congruent your interest in picking locks in the real world is tied to picking digital locks in the game world, though it is purely coincidental. I saw your two hacks on the sidebar there, Pokemon Red, and Pokemon Gold hacks, and I really like your idea. I've usually played video games as single player experiences and never played a portable game with someone else or even traded Pokemon so you have very good intentions and it also sounds like you have some talent. Hopefully you'll be one of those guys who will dazzle everybody with enough ASM knowledge to create an entirely new game out of an old game's engine.
