Moogy

This is an intro.  I have lurked around the emulation/ROM hacking scene (lol "the scene") for 5 years or so.  I was intending to keep doing this, but I figured the launch of this new site might be the time to actually, you know, post.

Fan translation-wise, my favorite games are Shin Megami Tensei 1 and 2.  They caused me to become hooked on the MegaTen series, and, by reading the intros of some others in this topic, I see that I am not alone in this sentiment.  Heh.  Gideon is probably responsible for 50% of Atlus USA's marketshare at this point!  :P

But yeah, I'll probably stick around a bit, as these forums seem pretty cool.

Dear fellow comrades,

I must say I'm very proud to be one of the board members of one of the most prestigious institutions on the entire planet. I must underline the importance often disregarded of maintaining one's HP at a high level, not to mention MP, AP, SP, and all the other personality attributes that really count. Let's hope the new year will allow everyone to be able to enjoy their Ruroni Kenshin in peace.

Greetings from Portugal,

Haeleth.  The English translator who isn't satsu.  These days mostly doing dodgy stuff to dodgy PC titles, but I used to hack roms too. (Maybe one day people will forgive me for never finishing Dark Law?)

Nightcrawler

No.. You are not forgiven! :P I was going to put 'The one who never finished Dark Law' as a custom title to you! What's your reason for quitting?

Might as well.  Whoopie.  I'm Tintenfisch (german for squid).  Currently at the youthful grand age of 19 (okay so my brithday is on the 21, bite me).

I came here because I was on Nightcrawlers Translation corporation message board and I decided to come here because I felt like that guy who goes to a houseparty and sits outside and talks to whoever decides to go outside at that time.

The game controller is my greatest weapon.  I will proceed to both punch and kick your butt on any platform.

My main interests in life are marine biology, comedy, camera work(in terms of making films), writing (mostly satire), raquetball, and wind surfing.  I've also dabbled a bit in the world of stand up.  I did two shows, one for the school talent show (fucking rigged, might as well called it a music concert) and another up at my brothers college in an acoustic Cafe dealy.  They both came out pretty succeful (gladly offer any tips to anybody)

Overall I'm a pretty friendly guy, hard to get mad and fun to talk with over some sort of chat thing (I.E aim).

As for as knowing the translators.  I pretty much know what they've done.  I have talked to some of them.

I helped D out with his resume (I found a double space mistake) and talked to him about twice one Aim (he told me stuff and his how much he enjoys the Neo-geo.)

Nightcrawler and I are like two neighbors.  The kind that don't really talk to one another but when they're both outside and they make eye contact we both have to say something just so it doesn't feel awkward.
like

Me: hey man, man did you see that game last night?

Nightcrawler: Yeah that was pretty awesome, sure was, how about this weather?

me: yeah pretty sweet.

*silence*

Nightcrawler: Yeah well I gotta get goin I got some work to do.

me: Catch you later.

Mightcrawler: You betcha

Ã,  Ã, Wow, i kinda feel like a minority here :-\ I don't have ANY hacking or translation experience at all. I just appreciate all the work people do. So, thanks to the hard workers!
Ã,  Ã, Anyway, a bit about me: I'm 16, a junior in high school at the most dramatic school in the world (no joke... ask me sometime if you doubt it....). I'm mainly interested in writing (you ever read any of those long fantasy series? Yeah... kinda like that.). I've been told that I should beÃ,  a stand-up comedian by a couple of my friends, but my school has no high school talent show... so I'm stuck just doing it for friends ;D.

Grave Wisdom

Vertz: Don't feel bad. The only experience I have is some half-assed unfinished hacks that I did years ago. People used to tell me I should be a comedian, and I would sometimes take it as an insult. When people keep bugging you to "say something funny" it starts to get to you after a while...

I'll pick it up for you :D After all, I was supposed to be doing all that hacking for you anyway, and it -is- the sequel to Dark Lord, in its way.
I know you said to ask for it on your website. Will send an email.

When people keep bugging you to "say something funny"

I dispise it when people say this.  Especialy when it's somebody you don't even know or barely know.  They just kind of expect you to pull something out of your ass.

Don't feel pressured about becoming a Stand-up comic.  From my experience It's a tough job, and yes I use the word "job" there because in no way do I consider it an activity.  If you want to at least dabble with it a little bit the best thing I can offer you is to do what I and some famous comedians do.  Carry around a notepad and a pen and go about your day.  Then when something happens that just irks you or something that you find is rediculous or stupid, write it down.  That will become our material.  It's a good start.

Thanks for the advice, Tinten. BTW, I think it's awesome that you've had a chance to do a bit of Stand-up. I'm mainly interested in it because it feels natural to me to make fun of world events (not saying I'm a natural comedian, though).
It bugs me too when people ask me to say something funny, but I don't get it that much, fortunately.

Tintenfisch

It's a daunting task.  Generally you have to be angry and stick to what you know.  Best way to start out (which is what I did) is when i was pissed off at traffic I wrote a letter.  Pretty much it was my solution to traffic to replace roads with log flumes.  It works because you say the funniest things when you're angry.

You don't even have to make a joke.  If your inflection is good people will laugh.

Example would be Robert Klein in the movie The Comedian (very good).  During one of his standup routines all he said was

I have to live with the fact that I sent my two parents into a city so they may live.  That's all he said but every second he got louder and louder.  Quite facinating really.

Zeik

Zeik's the name, I'm an Asian Studies major and as such I'm primarily interested in translation projects.  I, like many around here, have been floating around the outskirts of the scene, doing silly little text hacks and so forth.  I've been meaning to take on some translation work, but until recently I simply hadn't made the time, and I'm not familiar with the technical aspects of the process, dumping scripts and the like.  I'm feeling quite enthused about putting my skills to practical use, however!  *Runs off to the Getting Started section*

Among my idiosyncracies: I hold that Wild ARMs is the best RPG released since the advent of the 32-bit era, I love Star Trek(not so much Enterprise and DS9), Star Wars(the untainted parts of it anyway), horror movies, old school games, hiking, shooting at cans, Cherry Coke, people who hated FF7, and other things.  I read quite a bit, and if the position isn't filled I can be the board's token Three Kingdoms lunatic.   I've got pretty strange taste in music;  metal's a big thing for me right now.  When I grow up, I'd like to be a drifter.  I maintain that The Fellowship of the Ring was the best movie of the trilogy, and that Peter Jackson's best film is Dead Alive.  Oh, and I don't own a cellphone!  I think I'm the only person my age in this country who can say that!

Oldboy....Lord, for a week after I saw that, I couldn't pick up a pair of scissors.

I don't have one too ;) (and not because my old one is broken - I never had one)

Heh, I fall in that category as well.  I'd LIKE to use it more however, just usually get too caught up with other things...

the only time I do use it though is when I want to make a call.  I rarely give out my number because I don't want people calling me and anytime of the damn day.
