Hi Everyone,

I've been online as BassForever since 2003. I've been a big fan of rom hacks and fan translations since I discovered the idea over 10 years ago. I can't hack or program to save my life, but I've learned a lot to apply some of the really cool patches I've seen over the years. I decided to register to be able to leave feed back on the hacks I've played.

Heya!

I'm Topaz Light. I've had a big interest in games since I was a kid, and it's been really fun lately learning how to make my own modifications to them. There's still a LOT I don't yet know how to do, and I'm not sure how much I'm interested in making this my Main Thing, but it's a fun side thing to pick up and play around with, for sure!

Not exactly sure how much I'll be around, but I do have some hacks I've made for my own private use that I may share here at some point when I get the files put together in a presentable-enough way.

I joined because I love romhacking and want to be part of history hopefully making SEGAGAGA a fully translated (and licensed product) for people to play not only on the Dreamcast, but PS4 / PS5, NS, XBox and Steam.

We'll see how that goes.

So, i am finally here now,too

27 years old, love making synthwave music, located in germany.
like ten years ago i already came in contact with romhacking, for GBA games with classics editors like advance maps etc, which were lots of fun to me.
today, seeing me only playing older games from snes to psp, always looking for a little more into jrpgs, but also enjoying racing games.

glad to be here in this community! :-)

Part time lurker here.

I've been playing games for as long as I can remember, have been part of the PMDT as an odd-jobber, and have been playing way too much Dokapon Kingdom. That series go very far and there's quite a I want to play the other Dokapon games.

I've been learning small amounts of Japanese and using what I've learned and remembered from my Brawl modding days so I can fan translate or at least make a proof of concept of fan translations of the other Dokapon games, starting with Dokapon DX.

Greetings from snowy Northeast Ohio!

I came here because I've been watching YouTube videos of Zelda 2 ROM hacks such as The Resurrection of Ganon and Winter Solstice, and I'd like to be able to play them.

The last time I obtained a Nintendo emulator and ROM files was in the late 90s, so I imagine a lot has changed since then. Back in those days, it was legal to have a ROM file if you possessed the physical game cartridge, and I still have all of my cartridges. (I got my Zelda 2 cartridge in 1989 and after almost 32 years, its batteries STILL work! They need to make car batteries and cell phone batteries out of that stuff!)

So I have some questions.

1) Is it still legal to have the ROM if you have the physical game?

2) If the answer to #1 is "yes", what emulator can I use, on a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.11.6 El Capitan, to play the Winter Solstice .IPS file and/or the ROM for the original game (if needed)?

3) Do I need the ROM for the original game to play this .IPS file?

I like to keep things above board whenever I can, so if any of your suggestions are of questionable legality, inform me of that first. It strikes me that if this stuff were roundly illegal, it wouldn't be so easy to find online, and so readily flaunted on sites like YouTube and this one.

Um, hi? I kinda forgot to introduce myself, and my account is already some days old, and the date can't be undone so what hasn't been done will now be done now, I guess. Oops! I am currently working on some translations. You can view my website (which is written in portuguese) in my signature. Don't want to turn this into an advertisement post, just want to say about it's existence.

Howdy!
I've gotten into ROM hacking and translations of ROMs for a while now, I've messed around with some NES games' text and sprites. I have gotten many resources from this site and its forums, and I wanted to learn how to edit games from other platforms like the SNES, so i decided to register. It's nice to meet y'all

Hi! I'm Cyneprepou4uk, which is a Russian word "Супергеройчик" written with Latin letters.

11 May 2014 I've launched FCEUX and made my very first hack for Tecmo World Cup Soccer game. Since then I was making hacks for a tournament community for 5 years. Never would have guessed that I'll be interesting in NES romhacking.

I've never played many popular games back in 90s, so I don't have lots of interesting hacks or particular plans, I'm just doing whatever I feel like and sharing my knowledge with others  :)

I'm Rick from New York. At the moment I'm working on a big video gaming project where you can find all the consoles and video games that you can think of.

Hi all,

My name is Andy, and I'm an American living in Japan. My interests are video games, programming, and translation (ja-JP -> en-US), so I figured this community might be up my alley.

I've worked for a brief time as a video game translator and translation proofreader, and it is something I'd like to get back into.
If you have a need for a translator whose skills are a little rusty, feel free to DM me. I'm mostly interested in retro games that haven't seen release in the West (are there still any left out there?), demos, alpha/beta versions of released games, etc.

Thanks for having me here!

Welcome Capt. Check out the Help Wanted Ads section. Folks are always looking for translators. I seem to remember Pennywise mentioning he's waiting on a translation for Erika to Satoru no Yume Bouken. I don't know if he has a translator or not.

If you want to take a stab in the dark, I have a bunch of available scripts you can translate. You'll need to find someone to do the hacking once you're done (or hand it back to me and I'll try to do that) but there are some posted here: https://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=25981.0

There may also be others for the PCE in particular here: https://pcengine.proboards.com/thread/758/pce-raw-scripts
