As requested by one of the new people to the forum, here is the introductory topic where you can write a bit about yourself, help yourself fit in, and maybe even make a new online friend or two.

With that said, I'm not going to write anything because I already wrote something about me in the 'About this Site' section! Besides, I'm the big chief in charge here and everybody already knows who I am. j/k.

Well, I might as well write something here. I'm Grave Wisdom, oldschool gamer since 1886. I enjoy rambling, writing half-assed reviews, drinking cheap booze, and talking about the "good old days"
I'm a longtime fan of Emulation, having been into this for about 7 years. I was never actively involved in "the scene" in any direct way. But, i've run several RPG Mailinglist groups over the years...and did my best to educate people about the fan translation scene. Besides that, i've written a Fanzine, worked on numerous websites, and tons of other things here and there. My purpose for being here is to brainwash people into my "OLDSKOOL" RPG cult by having them read my psychadelic reviews, and make them realize just how right I am!!!

I'll be the resident crotchety older feller, the resident metal head, the resident 80's fan, and the... um... resident resident.

I also post news and fill in wherever Nightcrawler wants me.

My favorite band is Metallica, my favorite game EVER is probably Super Metroid, my favorite writer is Tolkien, my favorite beer is Heineken, my favorite type of wine is Riesling, and my favorite movie is Kill Bill 2.

Once upon a time (high school), I quite enjoyed writing, and excelled at doing so. Then I graduated to college and the study of programming. When I started working on donut, Spinner used to admonish me for my terrible writing. So remember kids! Computer Science ruins your ability to write!

Besides that, I live in Taxachusetts, I work at a bank, and I'm currently single ("Hey ladies," should any find this website in error), and I have an extensive wishlist on Amazon (hint, hint ).

I can't think of anything else to write, so, um, YEAH.

Oh yeah.... Romhacking. I should mention that I made several failed attempts (mostly due to lack-of translators and one case of graphic compression). The one I made the most progress on (i.e.: a release) was  Jajamaru no Gekimadden. Also made attempts at Hokuto no Ken 3, and Rent-a-Hero (which would be wicked easy to translate thanks to 24-bit pointers and the ease of Genesis ROM expansion... If one could just decompress the font and add PUNCTUATION (and maybe even lower case letters)).

I also wrote a program called DirectEd that is essentially a windows version of the DOS Tlayer, using DirectX 5. Then SnowBro reappeared later that month and stole my thunder with an WINAPI version . And no, I do not have he source. Something that riles me IMMENSELY.

I'm Gid. I run a little (cough) translation outfit called Aeon Genesis, and am a former Whirlpool staffer. God that thing was such a kludge to update, no offense (wraith) My favorite genres of games include the action/rpg and adventure/puzzle genres, although my favorite RPG series (Megami Tensei) falls squarely in the straightforward RPG genre definition.

I'm a student of Psychology and English at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, although this is my last semester and I'm looking for a job... to last me until grad school, anyway. I'm hoping to go on to the University of Pennsylvania (or possibly Oxford, hahahah yeah right) to study clinical psychology, and hopefully get a Ph.D. in six or seven years' time, at which point I'll hopefully have my own practice and be able to do all the fun things that clinical psychologists do. On top of my romhacking work, I'm taking a heavy courseload, am writing a book, sing tenor in a choir, and volunteer at the local adult learning center. And as an English major, there's something about the clashing of tenses in that last sentence that really bothers me, but I can't for the life of me place my finger on it. Damn.

I don't drink anything alcoholic, don't smoke, don't even like coffee; it's a small miracle I have the energy to get up in the morning. Love to read; currently enamored with Michael Ende's The Neverending Story, and although the best book I've read in the past few years was easily Susanna Clarke's Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, I'd wholeheartedly recommend Carl Hiaasen's Hoot to anyone who wants a quick read of a feel-good book. They're making it into a movie, too - saw the trailer with Narnia, I just hope they do a good job of it and didn't uproot any burrowing owls for the production of the film.

My musical tastes range far and wide, from 16th century choir music to 90s rock to cheesy 70s super robot TV show theme songs. I'll listen to anything so long as it's not rap, country, or the sorry excuse that passes for pop music on the radio these days. Ugh. And even then, I'll make some exceptions. Currently, the most-listened to music in my playlists include The White Stripes' "Get Behind Me Satan" album, and the Atelier Iris ~ Eternal Mana "Deceitful Wings" arranged album by the fantastic Japanese remix artist, SSH. The SSH guy's got a lot of freebies up on his website and his stuff's really, really good.

Relax? Free time? What? I know none of these things. Sleep doesn't even come naturally, I fight it off with a book. Must pack as much into the day as humanly possible! Blah. Does anyone else get the impression that I'm making up for lost time, or am I just too busy psychoanalyzing myself? I need to work on the relaxation aspect of my life

I used to hack, back in like, 2000. I had learned all the things needed -- hexadecimal, graphics editing, etc. But eventually grew bored of such things because there wasn't much one could do, at least, not much one can do if you're not assisting in something like translations, and I always figured such things were far too complicated for me. Or just required too much work. Now, I lack the attention span and comprehension of math and numbers to attempt to re-learn Hexadecimal. Fail.

I, too, obviously enjoy Megami Tensei, though, I've grown to heavily dislike the fans -- I try to avoid them as much as possible. I also prefer the "main" series to most of the spin-offs.

Oh, yes. "El" means "God", I took it from (I think) Revelations: The Demon Slayer when attempting to come up with a new name to use. Unfortunately, I'm rarely able to use it as most sites have a 3 character minimum for usernames. Damn.

[Kitsune Sniper]

I'm Kitsune Sniper (real name David Silva), who, depending on who you talk to, can be either a cool guy or the antichrist. I've been around for over five years and have released many crappy translations, including the infamous "Even if it kills me" Ys III Famicom project. I also have many unfinished translations which will probably never see the light of day because of lack of time and will to finish them. Who knows.

I'm a translator. No, not like most hackers here, I actually -am- a translator, only I do English-Spanish stuff. I also live in Mexico, in the very pretty city of Mexicali, B.C. Not British Columbia, Baja California. I've only got to finish my thesis and I'll be done with my studies... then again I haven't even started my thesis.

I'm also jobless. Loveless. Heartless. Emotionless. And many other lesses.

I've worked for RPGd, Donut, and The Video Game Museum.

I'm Chickenlump (James Steven Handshoe) from Columbia City Indiana.
I started hacking a few years ago, and am just now getting fairly decent at it.
I know enough snes assembly to find any routine I want, and tinker with it, and understand what it's doing.
Level data and stats are suddenly easy to find thanks to the wonderfull amount of debuggers out there now.
I love hacking RPGs, especially Chrono Trigger. The more I learn from that game, the more things I find myself already knowing about other games I dive headfirst into.

I'm a bit slow in the old noggin' but what I lack in intelligence, I make up for with good intentions.
In real life here though, what I lack in intelligence, I can slip a $20 under the table and all is well.

The name has no intended meaning.br /I'm studying at university and just got back from a year studying in Japan a few months ago. My future aspirations include vagrancy and debauchery.br /I started out in the scene doing crappy hacking stuff, but then realised hacking wasn't for me and packed it in. Then I came back into the warm, rubbery folds of the scene as a translator when I started getting good at Japanese.br /I'm currently working on the scripts for Energy Breaker for Disnesquick, Eien no Filena and this and that, but lately I've been very occupied with my final year of uni and personal life stuff. I used to work sporadically on donut, which is why the wikipedia entry on donut has &quotnot satsu" under the staff listing. I usually looked at the stuff that no one else wanted to do and would drive an ordinary man insane, like that horrible Kimengumi game. I also worked on rpgd for a long while and nearly resuscitated it once, but better judgement kicked in.br /I'm a Sagittarius and I like long, moonlit walks on the beach. My favourite ways of relaxing include Pokemon, pretentious music, odd movies, writing in my journal and idling on the Internet!!. Sometimes I even pretend to learn to play the electric bass.

Oh, and I really like hoodies. REALLY like hoodies. Not the zip-up kind, but the real kind. Can't live without them. I even sleep in them sometimes.br /

I even beat the game only referring to the FAQ about half the time. I think I deserve some kind of medal for this.
Sadly, I couldn't bring myself to beat Hirake Ponkikki, because by the time I got through the second section I had gouged my eyes out Oedpius-style. Now I'm stuck using crappy screen readers to enjoy the Internet, and I've gotten really bad at Pokemon.

And you're right about that! On the whole, people coming to settle estate affairs and death distributions are far more stable and composed than the people calling up on the phone bacause Wal*mart processed their check for $0.03 more than they wrote it for.

I call myself "Jack Dark" but that's an alias...  I've been into video games since I was 3 years old, I'm now 26, so, yeah, pretty much a life long hobby.  I've owned all kinds of systems throughout the years, I had a Master System when everyone else had a Nintendo. Lately things have gotten so expensive that I basically stay "one generation" behind, just so I can afford this hobby...

Luckily, emulation is free (kinda ), I got into emulation back in '97 when Nesticle came out, then it was Genecyst, then I ran an ancient version of ZSNES and loaded up Final Fantasy 6 and just about pooped myself.  It didn't take long before I was playing all kinds of import ROMs during that summer and wishing I could somehow understand what was going on in Bahamut Lagoon.

Along came romhacking and translations and I pretty much have been a convert ever since.  My respect and admiration for people who spend so much time out of their own personal lives to patch these games into English is gargantuan, even if I seem a bit sardonic at times.  I really don't know any of the ROMhackers of yore, other than Gideon Zhi, and that's only because I bugged the crap out of him out of undying adoration.  My favorite hack ever is Front Mission Gun Hazard.  I just about died when that was released.

Favorite SNES RPG = Seiken Densetsu II

My aspirations in gaming have lead me to desire to create my own little freeware games, but right now that's all I can say about that.  I'm friends with people who make games though, my favorite would be Sirocco, I do soundtracks for him from time to time.

Yes, music is my main forte.  I have a site about that.  Aside from writing music I also program software synthesizers and FX units... for fun and occasional profit.

As far as ROM hacking goes though, I'll probably always just be a rabid fanboy.  From what Gid's told me ... I don't even want to pretend to entertain the notion.  So hugetastic KUDOS to those who do.

I'm p4ch3c0, and I've been following the emulation scene for a few years now (since the initial release of NESticle). NESticle also introduced me into ROM hacking, thanks to its built-in tile editor, and the vast amount of hacked ROMs found floating around the Intarweb. A few years later I discovered The Whirlpool, which further raised my interests in ROM translations (Zophar's Domain didn't make the games seem appealing enough to make me take the time to download them. The only patch I've ever downloaded from Zophar's Domain is "Super Monkey RPG", which is a full text hack of Super Mario RPG. I highly recommend it.).
