Since I've sorta started a new translation, with a translator I might add, I should create a topic to centralize all my projects.

My new translation and again I'm working with Kiiri from moddb, the game is El Dorado Gate on the Dreamcast. I started a topic on theisozone and from that, got help from YBZ who found me a starting hex and then I gathered the hex's and managed to make some changes. That being said, I can only work as fast as my translator does his thing which is really slow. He used to be much faster but this is a side project so I really don't mind.

Working hard and the end is near, it shouldn't be long now. Here you go, a progress update for Ayanami Raising Project on the NDS.

I'm glad to see someone's working on translating El-Dorado Gate! I've been wanting to try them for so long, but the language barrier always kind of scared me off. If you don't mind my asking, how is that coming along? The main menu seems to look pretty good.

Bob Liu

Well I ran into a little snag recently, I created a table and was all set to go. The main menu texts could be changed but when I tried to find the first text screen in the game, it didn't work, probably because text outside the main menu is compressed somehow. I then sent a message to YBZ and he found the game file the text was in, uncompressed it and sent me the file. That was a day or two ago but I'll have a look at it later on and try to find the text, hopefully I will or the translation will be at a standstill. That's what has happened recently, and it's good to know people are interested.

Oh, absolutely! The Dreamcast can always use more fan translations.

I saw this a few days ago and just didn't log in before to comment, but wow! Really glad to see someone working on El Dorado Gate. I absolutely love the series and I'm glad that it will see the light of English day before the end of my lifetime. Can't wait to see what you do-- good luck!

At long last, a full release. It is done, I only have to spot check it but that'll take weeks for multiple playthroughs and I doubt people care so I'm gonna release it. You can get the download here, thanks for hanging on this long guys.

Ran into a little snag on El Dorado Gate, I don't know how to uncompress bin files and nobody replied on the thread I had on theisozone. Sadly, that translation is on hold. It was all fine and well, translating the main menu but I then tried to search for the text in the game and it didn't work, I then found out that's compressed so I hit a wall.

I wish I know thing one about ROM hacking so I could help you, but... I don't... Here's hoping someone helps you out with the brick wall!

Dreamcast hacking is not impossible nor unheard of, but you're not likely going to find someone who can help you with El Dorado. Finding and editing the hexes in a hex editor won't cut it for this game. Someone will have to find where the text is decompressed in memory and then reverse-engineer it and write a decompression tool to extract the script. They will then need to write a tool to put the script back in.

If someone can do that, then they can just as well do their own translation without you. Or you get lucky and someone can do that and provides you with the tools to translate the game.

Yea, lots of people have tried before and didn't get anywhere but I kinda though they couldn't find the hex's of the text, as YBZ did and I then built a table. I managed to edit the menu text and though there wouldn't be a problem doing the same with the ingame text, but sadly it was compressed. Although if anyone ever manages to write a program I'll give them my table if they want to work on it, as for me, I've already moved on. Anyhow the chances of that are practically non-existent.
