Arabian Nights - Technical Details

So we finally released Arabian Nights after a lot of hard work. Accompanying the English version I created a page about the technical details of its implementation. I'm sure there are people who aren't that interested in the game itself and hence won't read the readme/project page, but would still like to read about the hacking involved. So I decided to post this topic so they wouldn't miss it, as I put some effort into the the page and don't want it to go unnoticed:

If there are any questions or comments just put them here. This won't be the last game I've worked on so I'd also be grateful for any new ideas on how I could improve my hacking!

Some serious hacks above and beyond what was "necessary", some interesting workarounds and shortcuts I might not have considered and ultimately a very nice read, thank you for that.

Clever, that prerendering trick for text.  I'm suspecting you'll be getting a lot of traffic from other translators looking at implementing similiar systems.

This is an extremely impressive hack. I'll have to break out my PSP and give this a go. I can't believe the game's finally been translated, I've been waiting for a translation for years now. Good job  :thumbsup:

There was a french translation planned of this game, the translation of the script is over since a few months (maybe a year, I forgot exactly how long), I even talked about it with PennyWise a while ago when he was searching someone to hack the game, but it seems the hacker dropped the project a while ago.

The original YNT page had a diary section describing all the work done in this game in a daily basis, but the page was lost (the YNT site is off for some years). Someone has this diary section? I remember that this diary section was a very good reading too.

The only URL I recall is yntprojects.net.
The 2007 pages on archive.org aren't backup, and by 2009, it seems a cybersquatter got it.

I'd be happy to help out. Other than the script there's only a few things that'd need to be translated.

In the beginning you can only use cards for magic effects. However, the second character will learn some magic pretty fast and the first in the late parts of the game. Not gained by level though. The third character will only learn techs. Those are connected to levelups.

After those cool technical details, maybe I'll write up a similar document near the end of the Breath of Fire 1 retranslation I'm working on.
