Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town - True Love Edition

Falling in love is one of the most memorable moments in any Harvest Moon game.  Unfortunately for some, it always seemed like you had to choose between who you want to be and who you want to love.  I think some out there have been waiting for a game like this for a very long time now.

This is a request I've been hearing a lot, but so far no one has taken any action to create this.  Basically, all I am doing is replacing the Pete (boy) sprite with the Clair (girl) sprite from More Friends of Mineral Town.  Here's the current status

• The sprite replacement is done, barring any bugs I haven't found.  There are a few anomalies (missing chunk in the wedding dress), but I can't fix that without having to mess with some pointers.  Still relatively new at this, so that's on the back burner for the moment.
• No scripts have been changed at this point, so the main character is still referred to in male terms.  This is the next phase of work while I figure out how to use Cartographer.
• I want to modify the Title Screen, but the tools I've used so far have been unable to help me access the Logo or any other part of the Title.  Help here is appreciated.
• A Boy mod of More Friends of Mineral Town is planned, but will take a considerable amount of work due to it having more animations to edit.

I dunno if alot of people will like a gay male hack unless you make the guys flamboyant and funny. I guess it'll be good for the gay community tho. The lesbian hack should appeal to alot of straight males tho.

I'd rather hope this would break through the damn stereotype instead of portraying all Gay men as being overly flamboyant, obnoxious and whatever else.  Let's not feed the societal stereotype roles :|

You forget that straight females and gay males (and many more) play video games, and some may enjoy male/male romance without the ignorant stereotypes.

I really like the sound of all of this. And I think you will get a lot of interest once it is all done and someone from japan either copies the idea or re-translates it back to Japanese, as girl and boy-love games are nothing new and strange over there.

Uh.. why would they? All Japanese Harvest Moon versions give you an option of having a same sex marriage.

Not entirely true. Only Harvest Moon DS Cute did that. And they didn't term it marriage. It was called the "Best Friends" system.

It wouldn't be hard to back port it to japanese really. Just put everything but the he/she dialog changes into the japanese version and throw it onto a japanese forum with docs.

I'm holding out for the boy-on-boy version.

It always irked me how this series silently removed same-sex relationships during English localization. I don't know why Natsume has this impression that U.S. gamers are a bunch of fundamentalist causeheads who would start an outrage over it. I mean, series like The Sims have been doing same-sex romance here in the West for over a decade now.

It's possible they're just trying to avoid being cut down by the ESRB though. The ESRB might uphold that same-sex relationships are "inappropriate" for children, and such topics qualify for a Teen rating. Yeah, because no kids realize they're LGBT before they reach adulthood, nor are there any same-sex couples raising children of their own. Just ignore it and it will go away.

I'm starting to work on the boy version of the sprites, mainly because I'm kind of stuck on parts of the girl version.  I can't seem to locate the GBA pointer table, and the title-screen graphics are impossible to edit right now.
