Okay I just got it to work.

So yesterday I used SBWin to convert my rom from MD to BIN or SMD because Lunar IPS does not detect MD. Then after patching I had the error.

What I did just now was just directly rename the file from MD to SMD. Lunar IPS detected it, patching went just fine and worked correctly.

This also seems to be a problem with FLIPS.  Never noticed it until now because I've never patched an MD file until now. XD

CelestialVariable

Actually I patched with FLIPS, dunno if it would have worked the same with lunar, but for now I'm sticking with FLIPS I just have a general good feeling about that software, seems more recent (correct me if I'm wrong about that).  :police:

Chronosplit

Nah, you're right about FLIPS.

Interesting, I think it may be just the ROM format and not the MD file for sure; I tested this with Phantasy Star IV proper-caser since the ROM info says MD, it's working.

Maybe PSII Improvement just only works on BIN format.

FlamePurge

I thought they were all the same image file but with different extensions. Color me surprised.

vivify93 I went through the readme for your PSIV proper-caser patch and noted you had an issue with editing out the dashes in item names. I was cleaning up some text strings (stuff that comes up when the inventory's full) and checked that issue while I was at it. The game will think a $00 value (blank tile) is a spacer value when assembling those in-battle messages. That's why those names get truncated. If you use $57 instead it will be a blank tile from further down in the font table and you won't have that problem.

FlamePurge

Oh, thank you LadyAbaxa! Will this work without issue? Like, it won't appear corrupted anywhere, will it?

Edit-

Seems like it's working fine. Guess there'll be a new release soon.

Rock guitars very loud

Debating whether to stick this up on the Steam page :D But perhaps that'd be going a bit too far.

This has been a long time coming: Phantasy Star IV Proper-caser is now v0.6 and it includes lory1990's bug fix patch.

Phantasy Star II Improvement has also been v3.5 for quite a while now, and I apologize for not posting about it here sooner.

The Steam versions have been updated as well.

Are you going to rename this hack "Phantasy Star IV Proper-caser" to "Phantasy Star IV Improvement" then? Since it changes more then just letter cases now.

FlamePurge

No, for a couple of reasons. I didn't do the bug fixing, for one. For two, I'm still unable to do what I want to do with PSIV. (While keeping Lory's bug fix) If I were able to achieve my goals, my PSIV project would probably be renamed "Phantasy Star IV Consistence".

Edit - These are the potential ideas I'd like to execute for Consistence.

The dialogue wouldn't change beyond typo fixes and Raja's restored line.

loinbread

That's great news, vivify. Do you think there's any possibility of merging Iory1990's PSII bugfix with your v3.5 Improvement hack too?

FlamePurge

I won't, unfortunately. At the very least, I have his important fixes in already. :)

So, I've finally figured out how to use Lory1990's disassembly, thanks to mziab giving me some guidance. Phantasy Star IV: Consistence is officially in development.

- Expanded location names
- Slightly expanded menu selections (One extra letter makes a difference!)
- Character names and lore terms conform to the first two entries
- Acacia and ShadMirage restored
- Script update! It looks like I might be doing more than I had planned regarding this, but I'm aiming to fuse more naturally spoken English with the official localization.

No estimated release date, but those who have been following my project history know that I work fast. Be on the lookout for this!

The long, long struggle of ancient times finally ended...

The victor sacrificed the vanquished to the heavens.

Four bells tolled.

Four torches were lit.

And the world continued for thousands of years...

At long last, presenting the final incarnation of my Phantasy Star IV mod...

ReConstruct: Phantasy Star IV v1.0 for Genesis

ReConstruct: Phantasy Star IV v1.0 for Steam

The script has undergone a thorough examination, but unlike previous rewrite works of mine, I aimed to fuse the official localization with more naturally-spoken English. The only exceptions to this are where I fixed translation errors as provided by The Cutting Room Floor's comparison between the 4 leaked prototype scripts, the final, and the Japanese original. Characters will often convey the same information while saying less, leading to a snappier, more immersive experience. Additionally, lore terms have been carefully cross-referenced to adhere to standards set by Phantasy Star and Phantasy Star II. No more Algo, Parma, Dezolis, Lashiec, Laeruma, STAR-DEW, or Hydrofoil!

Some additional features:
- Expanded location labels of up to 17 letters
- Slightly expanded several menu selections to permit readability and avoid abbreviation
- Proper case menu terms return, with spaces instead of dashes between inventory names
- Items, equipment, and abilities renamed to take advantage of their full letter limits as necessary; at times renamed to avoid truncation
- Gryz can equip all knives (Except for the MAHLAYDGGR)
- The RYKR-RING is a helmet for Hahn, Gryz, Demi, Raja, and Kyra (18 DEF, 10 MDF)
- The planet labels of the unused map item have been translated
- The unused axe's stats have been adjusted (82 ATK, 30 DEF)
- The unused, unequippable armor has been changed into a body armor and had its stats adjusted (DEF +120, MDF +45)
- All of lory1990's bug fixes have been incorporated

Thanks so much to lory1990 for his Phantasy Star IV disassembly and mziab for his guidance, location label expansion routine, and additional tools.

Please enjoy! :)

Can you provide the CRC32 for the correct ROM file?
I am in trouble to find one named exactly as the one you mention in the readme.

Thanks!

Vivify93, thank you for your work on Reparations v1.0 Genesis.
I just finished it once on an emulator and want to report a typo:

In the musk cat cave, one of the cats says: "Not even we have seen the elder's treausre, meow"
It should be "treasure", obviously.

And I also would like to suggest QoL things, if these are doable:

* Silence Alys scolding: "Stop wasting time! There's nothing there!"
* Silence Chaz comment: "There's nothing interesting there"
But I just missed the NPC I want to talk to or accidentally hit the button on thin air, doh!
* Silence Chaz remark: "Don't open people's cabinet without permission"
Better not hear it if cabinet won't be opened anyway
* Disable/Delay auto-turn when walking and then hitting an obstacle.
It makes hard to examine closely placed objects.

I guess that's all! Again thank you for your hard work on this!

FlamePurge

Thanks for the report. Those are good suggestions, and I'll consider them. Right now I want to keep them, because most of the other games in the series have notices for searching and finding nothing.

I also found a couple of references to PSI that I missed in Uzo (There's a reason he discusses the Frad Mantle despite it being ages since you picked it up...). I'll probably wait to release a new version since these are pretty minor changes.
