Need idea for Setting/Story of new Metroid Hack
« on: March 26, 2012, 08:54:50 pm »
I'm starting a new hack, and was hoping to get some ideas for a setting and story to set the premise for the game.

Other M but have samus not be a total loser. Basically fix everything that is wrong with the other M plot.

I was thinking Something on Earth would be cool, but not entirely original, Might be able to make the elevators look like space to travel to different planets, like Mars and Zebes.

Like going on hired missions? Or what would she hunt? I'm not sure if I'm up for trying to change AI with ASM. Where does it take place?

If possible have her hunt villains from a few different classic games. Port the sprites to replace existing bosses in Metroid, and modify the backgrounds to resemble the levels from said classic-games.

I'd love to play a game like that... I have no hacking know-how, so maybe it's one of those easier said than done things.

Sprites and background graphics can be modded fairly easily, but AI is another animal. Should the Samus sprite remain the same?

I wouldn't see any reason to mess with perfection. Samus always looked cool enough for me in each game. I guess your options for changing the sprite are only limited by which original Rom you will be building from. Sometimes even just a palette change can do wonders.

A medieval horror theme? Maybe steampunk/horror? Could be fun. Like one of Samus's ancient ancestors?

Hack Zero Mission and/or NES Metroid into Metroid II! A game long overdue for a remake (along with the Super Mario Land games).

Metroid II is being remade by a fan group last time I remembered.
'We have to find some way to incorporate the general civilians in the plot.'

'We'll kill off children in the Juuban district with an infection where they cough up blood and are found hanging themselves from cherry blossom trees.'

well, I don't know if this has been done before, but it seems that Metroid and Castlevania would fuse together quite nicely. It'd be awesome to replace Grant from Castlevania 3 with a spider-balling Samus... lol

If you want to do a more Metroid-exclusive kind of game (not like a crossover), you should make one where you start deep inside a planet. Like in some underwater research lab, an entire "area" like that. You wake up without any knowledge of what's going on, go through the loops to unlock parts of the lab and escape into some deep terranian caverns. You'll find some "settlement" areas now and then, lab-like buildings, and as you explore more, you uncover more of the world you seem to be existing in. This is the inverse of the average Metroid game, where you leave a society and delve into a shadowy planet--here, you're in that shadowy place, and you don't have the solace of knowing why.

Sounds somewhat like Holdover.

Warning, featureless anime nudity.
