Yes, I'm going to put in geographic features next. And it is too symmetrical... Actually, I'm beginning to doubt the mountains themselves. They just don't look right to me. Would it be acceptable if I made it that there were two continents, and the only way to reach the other one was through a cave?

Is this version any better?

(The green spot around the ruins in the desert is from magic; I think it'll be a side quest)

That's better but if I were you, I'd add for example some forest next to the mountains in the north-western section of the island.
The right side of it is still lacking something too I think.
Pokemon Dark Energy is a rom hack based on Pokemon Silver. Like most pokemon hacks, it retains the pokemon stylish gameplay but has plenty of elements from other RPGs as well. You'd better check it out!

That is definitely much MUCH better than what it was.  Maybe see if you can make like a lake or a river stream in certain areas by the mountains, or if possible, between the mountains.  It'd definitely look better.

But this is DEFINITELY much better than before.
'We have to find some way to incorporate the general civilians in the plot.'

'We'll kill off children in the Juuban district with an infection where they cough up blood and are found hanging themselves from cherry blossom trees.'

I've been doing maps for my own project, I've wanted my maps to stay close to the original style (eg. make them look like a Square map designer did them)

Here's some advice:

Some more scattered forests here and there couldn't hurt.
Perhaps some extra tress around and merging with the mountain range (look at the spots around Choras 1000 AD or Medina Village in the original game)
A castle ruins somewhere on the map is a must, it's in the tileset so why not use it?

Beyond that, take a really good look at the original maps of 600 and 1000 AD (since they use the same t'set) and just notice the detail and how it's setup, spend 15-20 minutes or so looking at them, taking in the detail-that should give you some kind of further inspiration.

If you want, you could send me a copy of the export and I could go to town, I wouldn't change much, more like detail what's already there. ;)

Thanks for the advice! I'll be sure to use it.

I'm still working out exactly what each overworld will be... How do you guys feel about permanently-missable sidequests?

justin3009

I think those are fine.  If someone misses it and it's worth it, adds a heck of a lot more replay value.

I'm not a big fan of permanently missable (that's totally a word, Firefox) stuff, but I can put up with it if there's reasonable warning.

For me it usually becomes permanently missed.
Mauron wuz here.

Alright. I'll take that into consideration when I go to make some quests.

Well, I've been working on that map...

How's this version?
