Hi, folks!

I just published a text update hack for Final Fantasy Legend II (known as Saga 2 in Japan), and I included a Saga 2 title screen hack. I kinda threw it together at the last minute and I'm not really happy with it.

Here's the original:

This is the updated one:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxshchP8ohP1VHJGd0U5R0g1QnlEWi1KZ1VYVWplUkVSUnpv/view?usp=drivesdk

Please let me know what you think.

Also, I made this alternate title screen that I may release as a separate patch:

Sneko, the Super Nintendo Entertainment Kitty, wishes you luck.

I can't see the updated one. It says "Error 403 (Forbidden)!!1".
There has to be a better life.

Q

Try the updated links.

I saw widescreen and ultrawide hacks before, but that resolution is really unique. Talk about lateral thinking  It would be really useful for a phone port, or Switch port in portrait mode.
Your posts are as delightful and interesting as ever, paul_met. How are you managing such magic with Saturn games? You also basically saved the Grandia Saturn script port project, and put together a bunch of other proof of concept ones (Lunar Magical School, Linkle Liver Story... hopefully the programming base iso patch at least gets made available)

Sega Saturn is not such a difficult system, as many people think.

What did you see terrible here? Aspect ratio? It's a matter of taste. And the fact that the viewing area has increased by 2 times does not mean anything?
So, I'll tell you what I consider terrible. This is when in one game someone push characters from a completely different game. As a result, the original game turns into a circus. You don't need to go far, you can take, for example, Streets of Rage with leftist characters.

I am part of the audience for these hacks and I like them.
If you don't take a liking to something and don't want to try it, that doesn't mean it should stop existing.

You can, uh, I don't know, play another hack or be rude to someone else?

It's called modding and people often do it for lulz or simply for experimentation, nothing is wrong about it. Is it bad that back in the day people moded DooM turning it into Aliens? I don't think so.

But those weird resolutions you making... Just distasteful, IMHO. I bet, if there was possibility to make X-shaped render area, you would do it? Just kidding :D

I didn't say that something should stop existing and being honest doesn't mean being rude. People have right to have their own opinions.

I would have already done a widescreen mode, if everything would have been so simple. But I think that it is better to somehow increase the screen resolution than nothing at all.

It is, and there's nothing wrong with making your hack to whatever resolution you want. I.C.H.I. wants to complain but hasn't contributed anything of value to the community, or the forum. No one cares if I.C.H.I. is unhappy. Just ignore them.

I don't mind the wide screen hacks, although I am curious how 352x512i would look on a TV.

Maybe then you should have kept that "opinion" and sense of humor to yourself. There's one thing that's distasteful here, and it's not the hard work of a game modder for an often neglected console he cared to share here. Just saying, that's my "opinion".

Vertical layouts are incredibly useful for things like the Switch's portrait mode, or mobile phone screens.
One reason why the Sonic 2 mobile port was so good was that it added a widescreen mode. Games built for mobile (like EDGE) can switch between either a vertical display mode or a widescreen mode.
A lazy emulation effort would either have a letterbox 4:3 resolution, or stretched, instead of filling the rest of the screen area. More official emulations for games like these could use similar modifications to the game itself to allow for those appropriate resolutions.

The game is Nuts & Milk, an obscure first-generation Japanese-exclusive Famicom game that yet seems to have gotten a number of hacks.
