New Team - Hiring
« on: December 19, 2011, 01:07:03 am »
Hi Everyone, I'll keep this short and sweet.

I am gauging interest in banding a team together to work on 1-2 projects at a time. I am after skilled people in the below areas.

1 x ASM Hacker
1 x Japanese to English Translator
1 x Script Inserter / Extractor

I will be the website person and graphics artist and I have a strong background is translating Gameboy games on GBA/GBC. This could be good if you are really skilled in one of those categories but lack knowledge in the other areas to successfully complete a good project.

I feel my strength is managing a team and deadlines and delegating the right people for the right job. There is a screening phase of becoming apart of the team as I need to eliminate the (wanabe's) which sounds rude but I've been through this process years ago.

Please reply here and if you have a project already this is a great opportunity to get assistance to complete it faster.

Kind Regards,

Jazz

1102: How can I start a ROM hacking group?

One of the biggest neophyte mistakes is to attempt to start a new
ROM hacking group to accomplish some project you've thought up. First
of all, no experienced ROM hacker is going to join a group founded
by someone who's never released a ROM hack. Secondly, unless you plan
to do a significant portion of the work (and no, managing a team does
not count) then most ROM hackers will avoid your attempt to start a
group because it looks like you're wanting to take credit for their
hard work. If you really want to start a ROM hacking group, then show
some progress on a project of your own and then solicit people to
help you with it. It's generally easier to find an existing group and
offer your services to them, however.

From what I've read of your posts, I know you're not that much of a noob, but a team is a little idealistic and probably won't work. I think you're better off becoming proficient in ASM and getting various people to fill the needs of your projects as you need them.

The Definitive Guide to ROM Hacking for Complete Beginners

Interesting post Jorpho, maybe you should research more. Just so you know, I've started groups back in 2000 & 2003 this way and never had a problem. They weren't popular here as most groups at the time focused on NES and SNES games. I ran a forum with kmrdrow called cheatandwin which had 1000's of members which started out with a simple post like the above. What seems to be the barrier is negativety and people like yourself who assume before knowing anything about the person and what has been accomplished. Thanks for your input.

Please, if you aren't interested in joining - don't post. This wasn't a discussion thread.

I know I'm sounding like an ass but it needed to be cleared up.

As a side note, not everyone recruits because they don't know what to do. Sometimes its a case of time-poor since I work full-time. If I can have someone working on translating text while I'm designing graphics and another is putting in the required VWF projects are completed within weeks and not months.

Well, depending on the games, I might be interested in lending my translation services. But I'd have to really like the game, or it'd have to be something relatively easy/short if I didn't like it.

Awesome Darkness, I will PM you. I agree with you, I would hate to subject a team member to project they weren't enthusiastic about.

I also think for every project that my team completes I will donate $50 to Romhacking.net

I hope you mean romhacking.net .....  :police:

I might be interested in any ASM work for any GBA/NDS projects as I very much like ASM and have done many ASM hacks for various GBA projects over the years (Bomberman Jetters, Telefang 2, Dino Device 2, F-Zero Climax) non of which have so far been completed yet, mainly because of real life getting in the way.

I added a VWF aswell but didnt get much translated. If i remember correctly I still have one of your old phoenix version patches pre-vwf on one of my hard drives. I've since forgotten most of it but I have the code and translation up on github https://github.com/Normmatt/Gachasute--Dino-Device-2-Dragon-Translation along with some other projects https://github.com/Normmatt/Bomberman-Jetters-GBA-Translation and https://github.com/Normmatt/Telefang-2-English-Translation-Project and I'd highly suggest using github for collaborative work like this as it works rather well.
