Secret of Evermore new code for german version
« on: October 13, 2011, 01:07:19 pm »
Hello,

I hope i'm right here with this subject. I'm german, so sorry for my bad english
In the american version, there is a action replay code "5DC5-CD7E" for walking through everywhere.
Sadly this code doesn't work in the german version of Evermore.
I'm not a very high master in coding, i only have made this game harder by making the enemies hp and other properties harder,
but i don't know how to search for this "walk through walls"-code for the german version.
I hope someone can help me with this  :)

I needed 1 min to find out using google

Assuming this are correct for the SOE (G) codes:
http://www.spieletipps.de/snes/secret-evermore/tipps/7344/1/

cross checking with this ones:
http://www.ultimate-cheatz.de/codebase/daten.php?system=snes&act=detail1&id=5700

then your code is:
8FAE7070     Walk Thru Walls
that is found here:

No, sorry.
If you are tiping the code ARP-code "5DC5-CD7E" for example in ZSNES, it's automatically shaped to
"8FAE7070" - Which code doesn't work in the german version.
I have googled a lot for this code, but i only found the american one...

Do the other cheats codes work from the second page (it's the only one with explicit name SOE(DE) )??
I find it hard to believe that the US and the PAL should have the same items code but not the same walk thru walls code.

Otherwise, since Game Genie codes are ROM patch codes, you could use a Game Genie decoder to find the ROM address and value for the US version, then look at the code in a hex editor and then search for a match in the German ROM.

@Auryn:The codes of this site are working for items and status changes. But there is nothing about this "walking thru walls"

@KingMike:I had encoded this game genie code and became "8FAE7070" - exactly the code i became in ZSNES.When i searched for this line, i only can find codes in memory starting with "7".
How can i search for this equal code when ZSNES' cheats memory searcher is only searching with codes starting with "7"?

Code relocation is usually why most codes between regions/versions don't work.

If it works between versions/regions, it's generally because the relevent code is executed in the same place.

This is a copy paste from the last site i posted:

8DC60D80     Dog levels up after battle. (Works up to level 77)
8FAE7070     Walk Thru Walls
8FBA6FB4     Potection from most enemies but not magic.

what is the middle code for??

By the way, if that code is a fake and doesn't work either for US and PAL version of the game, then what KingMike posted is useless too.

@Deathlike2: yes, I know that. That's why I think it's strange that the walk thru walls code doesn't work but the others work.
From what i know, there is only Chocobo Racing PSX that has the same codes for the 3 regions.
The problems with most cheats code pages are that they don't clearly mark the region or version of the games.

Must be a "fake" Game Genie code, then.
I guess emulators will allow Game Genie codes that modify RAM (banks 7E and 7F, address 7Exxxx and 7Fxxxx) whereas a real Game Genie will only allow ROM patches.

But I'm guessing the one Auryn posted is a PAR code, which looks like a ROM address, so it should be one that can be converted to Game Genie.
($7AE70, replacing with value 70). Definitely if the game is LoROM, but I'm not sure if banks $80-BF also use LoROM mapping in HiROM games?

I've tried to patch this game genie code in the US-rom in the encoded adress "8FAE70" to get some more experience in coding and
to do it then for the german version. But when i searched for this adress in the ROM,the hex-editor says the value "CB",
ZSNES says the past value was "03" and current value is "70".
I patched the "CB" value with "70" nevertheless, but the cheat doesn't work when i started the US game...
I have to say that this cheat is not normally integrated by the programmers of this game, maybe for someone is reading
this and don't know something about this game.

OMG, I have to change work and start to be babysitter :p

Let's take a step after another:
what is the difference between an Action reply (PAR code) and a Game Genie (GG code)????
A quick look at this site tells us that
PAR changes values in the RAM
GG changes values in the ROM and are encrypted.

Next step, can ZSNES accept/work with both type of code??
ZSNES give us the answer here.

Is the code correct and working??

Yes for SOE NTSC/E
No for SOE PAL/G

What now??
Basically you have 2 way to go on now:
-you check for the original value at the RAM address in SOE-E (the PAR code tells you where), go search for it on SOE-G and modify that position.
-you try to change the PAR to GG so that you find a ROM address instead of the RAM address...
How to do this?? HERE

It took me less than 5-10min to find all this out.

Ok,so how can i check for the original value in the RAM?I took the US-ROM with "8FAE7070" PAR-Code loaded and searched for all "70" (HEX) values in RAM via cheat searching in ZSNES.
I wrote all adresses on a list and loaded the game again without the PAR-Code.Then, i tested every adress i wrote seperatly that hasn't the value "70" anymore. But none of this adresses were working...

Well, if you don't know the difference between RAM and ROM, then you will never succeed.
This show you that's possible

And here and here are my last helps to you.

Alles weiteres muss Du selber heraus finden

Hurray!! - I found it finally :) The game genie code is "5DC4-6D5E".That the previous value was "03" i knew about a long a time before, but i was always searching  this value in RAM via cheat searching and replaced every "03" with "70".
Now i was only working with the game genie tools.Thx for all they were reading and helping me with this, especially Auryn :)

I don't know if it's correct, I hard patched the game using this from the second site I gave you to find a chain of consecutive values in the ROM.
Then searched that value in the german ROM and with a bit of luck you find it a bit before the address you found it in the USA ROM.

If you want to convert the patch to the German version, then you have a very tedious job of figuring out what exactly all of the changes in the US patch do, and what the corresponding ASM in the German version is.
