Interviews (interest check)
« on: June 04, 2011, 04:20:43 pm »
I am hoping to do a series of interviews with fan translators (both hackers and actual translators). Well, I say interview, but the format would be more like a conversation related to fan translation. This would be conducted over a service like Skype or Google Talk, recorded and published podcast-style.

If you would be interested in taking part, please let me know. The only condition that I'd like to put on this is that you should be experienced (e.g. have a complete project to your name or a significant amount of work done on a project/projects).

sa♥tsu, can you let us know what site this is for, or is it something you're starting up fresh? And do you see written interviews being an option if there's enough interest in that sort of thing? While it might seem like sort of a copout, I can see advantages in terms of info clarity and for those who do great work but might not be so confident in public speaking for whatever reason.

Like not being a native speaker and being ashamed of having a horribly thick accent :-[

This is an idea for a new series, which I will distribute on my personal site.

I'm not really keen on doing written interviews, though I'm not ruling out transcripts. Part of the reason why I want to try this is that there are either no or very few spoken interviews with fan translators (as far as romh acking goes), and additionally, the nature of spoken conversations can be very different from written conversations.

I can see advantages in terms of info clarity and for those who do a great work but might not be so confident in public speaking for whatever reason.

I'm not bothered by other people's zany accents.  :)

This is an excellent idea; writing conveys a great deal, but speach is an avenue that we've never really had with this kind of idea. Assuming that parties are willing, this is something I'm very interested in listening to.

I've always pictured Kaio having a massively booming Norse God voice!
"Remember when we were in Japan? You said you were my gun, if you're the gun then that means I'm the bullet."

"All my life I've been waiting for the gunpowder to go off, you know what you need to ignite gunpowder? You need a gun."

I would recommend that those who have mics take part in the interviews as it's a good opportunity for everyone and the community.  So it has my endorsement.

I guess I'll participate. I'm a little camera-shy, but I'm going to be on the selectbutton.net podcast next weekend anyway, so eh, why not.

Try being a native speaker and being ashamed of your accent. :P

Try being a native speaker and having a godawful lisp. Fortunately, I'm not anyone relevant to satsu's interest for the purposes of this thread, though. :P

If you need some filler, I can join in. I don't have anything completed to my name. Just some misc stuff.

I might be able to talk WildBill into it if you need someone else.  You could use me, but I've only organized a handful of projects, really.

I wouldn't mind doing it. I haven't exactly finished any romhacking projects, but I've finished two or three translations.

This sounds like a really good idea.  Could be really informative, or could end in Gid' getting punk'd on skype.  Sounds interesting, either way.

I’d volunteer if I had a single complete translation to my name. I have that condition called never-finishing-anything-itis.

The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Thank you very much, guys - I'll be in contact shortly to discuss things further.

I'm just getting set up - I've just done a test run with Pennywise, and I'd like to see what I can learn from the pseudo-pilot I recorded, which is an hour's worth of listening. (So far, I've learnt that I need to shut up a bit and let the other guy talk.) Since it's early days yet, I'll probably start with two or three people and see where it goes from there. So - still preparing!

In the meantime, could you please send an email to satsu at sign yuudachi dot net letting me know:
- Whether you can do Skype and what your Skype name is (this option is strongly preferred)
- What times/days are good for you
- Which timezone you're in
