Finding secrets in Bomberman II (NES)

Hello, I am trying to find possible secrets in Bomberman II for the NES.  The first NES Bomberman has a lot of point-boosting items that are almost impossible to activate during normal gameplay, as seen here:
http://tcrf.net/Bomberman_(NES)#Bonus_Items

Bomberman TurboGrafx-16 also has similar hidden items.

I am wondering if Bomberman II has any of them, and if so, how to activate them, but I have no idea how to do that.  I tried to use many different graphics viewing/editing softwares just to see if there are any to begin with, but none of them show anything that looks like graphics (apparently it is one of the few NES games to have graphics compression, and there is no CHR file).

In short, the three step process is:
1. Determine if any graphics for hidden objects exist.
If yes, 2. Determine if they are still functional in the game.
If yes, 3. Determine how to activate them.

I am stuck on #1 for now.  If anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it.

First off, I'd crack that sucker open with YY-CHR or what ever you use for editing graphics. Take a cursory look to see if there are any extra graphic present.

If so, you have a good lead. Next you want to determine the value associated with any existing power ups. Then tweak those to see if anything unexpected happens.

Thank you!  I eventually found the items, but there weren't any extra ones like in the other games.  However, I did find an enemy that I had never seen show up in my normal playing, so I want to see if I can get it to appear.  I've never done anything like this before; what do you mean by "value" and how do I determine it?

Read through Parasyte's documents on breakpoints. That should give you a good idea about where to begin.  http://www.romhacking.net/community/441/
