I still think it may be September.  The game's maps have been done from front to back, the ending is finished.
Most of what I'm going to do to the dialogue is finished, now I'm just checking for errors.

Also, I need to fix the enemy sprite colors.  And the bug with the enemy sprites that sometimes occurs is because of enemy parties that have 3 enemies.

The last thing I'm doing is to see if any of the game's events can be improved with some of the free event space I have.

I redid the train map.  Here's some before pics with the new version on the right.

Along with the map, I redid the events and improved them a little.

Would you be interested in producing a round of reproduction carts of this game, if NESinfinite can create the proper reproduction cart for NES systems (or if he's willing to)?

That would be amazing.

I would love to. But I need to get the supplies first. Plus I'll need to practice on more common games too since nanjing games are so rare and, at times, expensive. I do have one usable nanjing cart so I can make one for myself.

You may need to change your screen name to "GoochJr."

Just sayin'.

I just want to say all your hard work looks absolutely fantastic!!

I have a few questions though, I tried patching an original English version of the FF7 Chinese rom with your latest patch (via Lunar ISP) and everything works, but as soon as I get forced into the first battle the screen just goes black. Am I messing something up? Did I have to expand the original rom?

This same error happened in the same place, on two separate emulators.  One on my Galaxy phone and the other my desktop.

keithisgood

Lugia will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the patch is intended for the unmodified Original Chinese Version: [NJ063] Final Fantasy VII.nes

Lugia2009

keithisgood's right, the patch is over the original untranslated version.

*Update*

I redid all of the enemy parties, and I fixed the odd coloring on the enemies.  Also, by lowering the max number of enemies in any party to two, the problem with the text overflow is now fixed.

I also adjusted the beginning events for the game and added some dialogue, that was missing, in.  Such as when Cloud hears the voice tell him "Watch out, this isn't just a reactor!" before the first boss fight.

I also adjusted a few errors in the dialogue, one being when Barret says "Our target's the north Mako Reactor, we'll meet on the bridge in front of it." Which was said while everyone was standing on the bridge in front of the reactor.

I believe that all events for the game and dialogue are finished.  The only thing left is a final adjustment to the game's character and enemy stats.  And a final play-through for any other things that need to be fixed.

Zeromus

Ohhhh I see, thanks you guys!  And I'm going to wait a few weeks for the final version!  This looks so great, serious kudos to your hard work!

SageOwl

I have not read through the entire thread so I do not know if this has been mentioned or answered, but would this game be compatible with the Everdrive n8 flashcart?
It was not mentioned on the compatibility list for it, so I have no answer.

Game is looking great so far. Can't wait to play the completed product  :woot!:.

KingMike

While the mapper should be simple to support if it is, I think the game is probably too big. If I read right, the Everdrive only supports up to 512KB PRG plus 512KB CHR (enough for all official games), while this game is 2MB (as many pirate games are 1MB or larger).

Does this mapper's sound processor have the capability for global adjustment of digital delay? How few milliseconds can you set it to?

Final Fantasy VII on the PSX doesn't have a very good reverb image, but from FF3 on the NES onward, digital delay had become very much used by the soundtracks of Final Fantasy. If it is your desire to frame this story within that aesthetic context, I recommend you get some slap-back on the sound, if it's not there already.

I'm actually waiting to playtest it till it's done...

Didn't you read the rules? The project is done when its done. Patience my friend! Besides, he's already done 99% probably already done. Some of the midgar places need some adjustments but that's all in time. And Lugia might have bigger problems to worry about.

Lugia2009

That's okay, I don't mind being asked.

No estimated date yet, but quite a bit's been done.

I began playing through the game, editing some things as I go along.

Since Dizzy9 made the patches to make it so character's HP is no longer restored when leveling up, and made it so Phoenix down's now restore a small portion of HP rather than fully restore a character, the game became a bit harder.

I went through all of the enemies and characters and adjusted some of the stats to balance the game back out, so I'm playing through to make sure the game is not too hard or too easy.

Another thing I wanted to fix, is that in this game, Ethers were really not needed.  MP for each magic spell was pretty high, and not only that.  MP is restored when a character levels up.

I fixed that by greatly decreasing the amount of MP for each spell, and I made it so MP is no longer restored when leveling up the characters.  Now, Ethers are much more of a necessity.

To make magic still worth using and spending money on, I also increased each character's magic power and decreased their attack power a little.

And for the events of the game, I began going through adding in pieces of dialogue here and there, and altering others, along with making some improvements to the game's events.  I'm also adding in some explanation of some things in the game to some of the early NPCs.  Such as one of the characters in Sec. 7 give an explanation of Materia in the game.  And on the very first area of the game, Barret now tells the player they can run while holding down the B button.

So far, I'm up to the 63rd floor of Shinra HQ.  Not too much else should need to be fixed, since I really started learning about the game's event system around this time.

Nerd42

Oh ... I liked full healing on level up. Ah, well, it's your game. Just don't make it impossible OK? :)

Lugia2009

Well... I have some bad news.  My computer seems to no longer work.

I wanted to know if anyone could help me with it.
It's an HP Pavilion G4 laptop. The power comes on, the cd drive makes noises and the wi-fi light comes on. But the screen does not power on. And when I turn it on, sometimes the caps key blinks once when powered on and once when I hold the power button to shut it off.

I have tried doing hard resets, connecting it to an external monitor, and blowing out any dust.  It did come on last night and I updated the bios, but now it will not come on at all. I'm at a loss.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do?

If the screen is not showing anything then it's probably a problem with the screen no ?
Like the cable that connects your screen to your motherboard that is broken, or the power of the screen that doesn't work.

In any case, laptops are hard to fix for issues like this... long live desktops.

Not necessarily a problem with the screen. It could be the graphics card. I have had that happen to me before. Yeah laptops suck when something breaks.

That also happened to me too. I had to get a new chip as well as a sound card and put them into a free slot. You can't simply replace a chip like you used to :-\. Also for future reference have your files on an external drive so you can access them on another computer easily.
