If you're an absolute beginner with this, PS2 and PSP are a poor place to start. In some respects, modern games are easier to hack in that 1. all the data is usually parceled out into individual files and 2. you don't have to worry as much about everything fitting into the same space when you're done. However, this doesn't make up for the fact that they are, by and large, uncharted territory. There are a number of translation patches out for PS1 and DS games, but if you have any serious ambitions of fan translating anything newer than that, you'd better be prepared to blaze your own trails.
