Want to get started with a translation
« on: March 25, 2011, 08:19:47 am »
I'm hoping to get a project going to translate a certain PS2 game and a certain PSP game, though I have no idea what I need to start, I'm fairly quick to learn and dedicated, but not knowing where to begin doesn't help me much.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You might as well tell us what games you had in mind.

If you're an absolute beginner with this, PS2 and PSP are a poor place to start. In some respects, modern games are easier to hack in that 1. all the data is usually parceled out into individual files and 2. you don't have to worry as much about everything fitting into the same space when you're done. However, this doesn't make up for the fact that they are, by and large, uncharted territory. There are a number of translation patches out for PS1 and DS games, but if you have any serious ambitions of fan translating anything newer than that, you'd better be prepared to blaze your own trails.
