Pixel Artist Wanted
« on: February 03, 2011, 06:16:17 pm »
I've got a project in the works, but the catch is all the text is stored as graphics. I'm in the process of lining up a translator and getting a few other things in order, but the most important thing I need is someone who can take the translations and redraw them so they fit in the game both in space and look. There isn't a lot of text. If anyone's interested post up or shoot me a PM. I'd really rather not say what the project is publicly until it's far enough along that I know it'll be released for certain, i.e. I have a translator and artist on board.

Thanks. :)

Have you tried my TheCheat, or the Bitmap Font Writer that inspired it?

Either way, I could help. All the text in Sylvanian Melodies was stored exactly the way you're describing.

I actually have a similar project in mind from a while ago, if anyone's interested. It's a Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star) DS game, where the majority of the game's text is stored as text in manga panels. It's all uncompressed, in separate files in the game's filesystem. I just need someone willing to help me put those together (and hopefully make it look like manga) once translated.

If you can provide the bitmap images, I can typeset 'em. Check out the scans of Liar Game on my website. (Sorry if it's inconsistent; I got better as I went along.)

I find redoing the text fun. It’s the cleaning the old text out that I hate!

Speaking of The Cheat, you have an off-by-one error on dialog-clipping. It's not really noticeable unless you're trying to use it to take dialog shots for a parody LP, but one of the reasons I'm stuck on Mystic Quiche is that piecing the script together letter by letter is a monumental pain in the ass.

I'd suggest you to use C# or whatever simple-to-use graphical library in C++ and code a little utility to render everything from text files in batches. No real need for pixel artists here.
