The Nintendo DS version of the SaGa 2 (known as Final Fantasy Legend 2 for the Gameboy in the USA) has been completely translated by the Crimsom Nocturnal team.

Speaking of DS translations, the 3DS is coming out soon. Does that mean RHDN will start hosting DS translations? It won't be a current gen system for much longer.

reyvgm

Ah, so that's why there aren't any DS translations here. I thought the authors didn't want them hosted here for some reason.

Excuse me while I have a serious yes-gasm over here.  :D

Yeah, we don't host patches for current gen systems (for legal reasons). We can, however, host documents, utilities, and news for current gen systems.

Although Pennywise asks a good question, Nightcrawler will have the final say though.

This is one of the few I imported and played through... great remake.  I'm happy to hear the translation's finished, since the game deserves a healthy international fanbase.

Maybe if enough people ask, they'll bring over SaGa3... although I prefer 2, it's probably too late for this one.

Wheeeeee!!! More SaGa love than Squeenix can do!

I do hope they finish Summon Night X next, loved the series after playing the 2 GBA games and the DS one and after discovering that the series was originally an SRPG (even most games are Japan-only.) and that the other's are more or so, spin-offs. This series also has shifted to different genres quite fine.

TimeSpaceMage

Holy crap, Legend 2 was one of my favorite games. Why doesn't anyone ever tell me about these Japanese releases? =P
Oh well. Good to see some love brought back to this series!
Tinker: "You're going to go where no one has gone before!"
Hero: "We've actually been there before."
Tinker: "Oh. Well, you've never been shot out of a turret, with only a minimal chance of survival!"
Hero: "That's true."

I was wondering: why not giving a proportional font to dialogs while everything else uses nice VWFs? Not to mention that font is kinda abused thanks to Nintendo giving it away in some sort of SDK package with essential font crap. Actually, it's been around since Xenogears was released.

I still wonder why SE doesn't want to bring SaGa remakes state-side.  Are they afraid that the western market can't handle so many JRPG's? Do they think that the SaGa name would be unfamiliar to modern audiences? Hmmm...

TimeSpaceMage

It is my understanding that SE does not release any game they're not sure will sell a crapton of copies.

The SaGa series is very niche in the US. That simple. It was given its time to shine, and didn't succeed.

KingMike

But given that these are remakes of what appeared to be highly popular entries, it's confusing.

Highly popular where? Here? Never heard of much fandom in the English speaking gaming community. Also, I think the publishers in Japan realized that before they create yet another generic JRPG with a "kids go and save the world" story they can just use an old one and sell it as remake. That way you don't have to rewrite the story all over again and you get an interested fandom audience for free, which is easy sales compared to building a fanbase for a new franchise.

Well, in the US, especially being reprinted around the time of FF7's release and its almost instant popularity.

Not sure about Europe, since I don't think they were ever released there.

They weren't. Had to import FFL1-3 back then, god bless region-free systems like the good ol' GB.

I'm very happy about this translation, seems to be a nifty remake. I wonder if there is also a Saga 1 remake?

There sure is! http://agtp.romhack.net/project.php?id=saga ;)

SargeSmash

Eh, they were popular because of the attachment to the Final Fantasy brand.

So, what S-E needs to do is bring over the remakes, but as some branded Final Fantasy game, like before.  That should do the trick.  Of course, I don't see it happening, but it's a nice thought.

On second thought, maybe that wouldn't even work.  Final Fantasy doesn't have quite the cachet that it did a few years ago, so it might not achieve instant success just on the association with the series.  How is Four Warriors of Light doing?

Yep.  They even passed DQ off to Nintendo to deal with while they quietly pretend it doesn't exist.
