Final Fantasy II Nes- Found the Warps?
« on: January 17, 2011, 02:41:15 pm »
I was screwing around with Final Fantasy II and edited some bytes around 31F0 (by some I mean a lot). Though what I was doing wasn't the most professional, I had a response to my edit. After the opening battle the character was immediately warped to a very odd map without the scene you would normally expect. Here is a picture:

I tested further by using savestates and when I exited the first town I was warped in the middle of a mountain. I edited the warp system by no doubt but the fact that the maps were altered rattled me. I hope I found something that is new. I will provide the patch to you, I hope it works XD

You can find some nice tools & docs for this game here,
like Jade 0.2

But no document talks about town data. Though I didn't hit any of the town level block data I hit some code that influences it.

From my lack of knowdlge it sounds like you found data on the exits and enterances of towns, seems like something work exploring.

A long time ago, Vagla looked into the town/dungeon map data format for me, and he gave me his findings for them:
Code: [Select]
town tiles appear to be 32x32 in size...go figure

there are $40 32x32 blocks
begins at $710
same format as tsa (each component is $40 bytes apart. i hate that fucking format)

$10010 - $100D0: town pointers, 2 bytes each, 192 bytes total

$100D0 - $13B32: town maps, varying bytes for each

$100D0: restoration room (Hilda & Minh) - Altea
87 31 80 07 01 87 08 08 22 0A 22 0A 22 0A 09 87
08 0B 94 06 09 87 08 0B 94 06 09 87 08 0B 94 02
40 94 03 09 87 08 0B 94 06 09 87 08 13 82 02 0F
82 03 09 87 08 8A 03 16 08 8A 02 11 87 0B 0A 11
87 4A FF

$10113: Rebel HQ - Altea

$101D2: King's resting room - Altea

$10213: Hilda's room - Altea

$1023D: Altea (the town)

$10325: Gatea

This was many years ago (5?), and since I wasn't in tune with any debuggers at the time, I didn't really understand what was going on. Rest assured, when I pick up Jade for its second and final rewrite, the town/dungeon map editing will be included.

Did you create a table for all the tiles yet? I can make one if you want me to.
