Blaster Master Editor
« on: October 09, 2010, 01:39:59 pm »
Hey folks. I've got a Blaster Master editor in the works. Pretty much done, really. Think BCK meets Editroid, if you're familiar with the two (or just watch the video on youtube).

Update:
Here is version 1.0.

As much as I'd *love* to give this a whirl and continue my Blaster Master hack of old, I'm really super busy until around Christmas :(

It appears as if my screen resolution isn't big enough to view the entire program.  I highly suggest you rectify that or else this editor might not be usable for alot of people.

What resolution are you running? Here is the program running on my computer at 800 x 600, and at 640 x 480. I'm guessing that you're running at 640 x 480, otherwise there shouldn't be a problem. If you are running a different resolution, can you post a screenshot?

I can't see myself making 640 x 480 support a priority. I can make it work. I know a lot of people in the rom hacking community have sub-par hardware, but these days 800 x 600 is considered low resolution. The computer my family had over ten years ago ran 800 x 600. Most of the software I use daily doesn't support 640 x 480.

Actually it works fine.  After you told me you use the middle button from dragging, everything seems to work well.  Do you think that having arrow key support might be a good idea?  It might be handy if I can use the arrow keys to, for example, drag a sprite from one spot to another without having to hold down the middle button, AND the left button at the same time.  It would also be good for viewing the level, again, without the middle drag button.

I'd just like to note that I'm on a laptop and do not have a middle mouse button. Is this going to be a problem?

No. The middle mouse button is used for scrolling (like Editroid, if you've used it). You can also hold down control and use the left mouse button to scroll. I should look into Jigglysaint's suggestion to support the arrow keys as well.

GYAAH!   Playing with this editor has put me on a Blaster Master tangent.    After 2 weeks of editing, I couldnt get enough, so I bought Blasting Again (PSX) and Blaster Master Boy (GB) .  I NEED Blasting!

You mean you "illegally downloaded the rom", right?  Better revise your post lest they mod you for such horrible actions such as purchasing an old copy of a game legally.

Naw, I'm just having fun with you.

How do you move the doors (the exits to other levels or to overhead areas) and/or change where the doors lead? Or is that even possible?

Since you're not the first to ask, I wrote a how-to: http://snarfblam.com/words/?p=246.

Also, here is version 1.0, which has been handed out here and there, but never properly released.

Hi, thanks a lot for this awesome tool, I just released a level hack (Blaster ReMaster) using it along with earlier versions. That utility is great to use and the undo/redo buttons were a great addition! http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/958/

Seems to work fine for me. What version of the game are you patching? I used Blaster Master (U).nes (CRC32=52bcf64a, MD5=9c96408f7a7aa0da2c3b723759699506).

Only played it for a couple of minutes, but it looks promising. I'm definitely gonna take this for a whirl when I have a chance.
