Dan has a "google pages" homepage for his projects, but it just says the editor is under development (no download). All old download links seem to 404 or go to abandoned domains.

I was checking archive.org for his dan.panicus.org website (no luck so far on finding a copy there), but I found this listed in his news:
Quote
I think it's safe to say...
my ROM hacking days are pretty much over.  I no longer have the will or the passion to work on any ROM hacking projects any more. I had planned on releasing all my data to Data Crystal, but I haven't even got the motivation to do that.

I may get the motivation back, but I really wouldn't count on it. If anyone wants the unedited data notes I have, send me an email or something.

Bye dudes!
...that  quote is from way back (2005?), but at any rate I wouldn't hold my breath for it. Awesome prospect, though. TMNT for NES was one of the coolest games I played as a kid. If anything maybe he'll release his notes and someone else can pick up where he left off? Being able to edit the levels would be wicked...

If someone gets the notes (and the source, if available), I might be willing to slap together a minimal editor, for which I would then release the code in case anybody wanted to elaborate on it.

I second that. In fact, I'm officially ROMhacking again, starting..... NOW!
I'll start a TMNT ROM Documentation thread now and waste the rest of my afternoon at work tracing code. snarfblam, if I can supply you with all of the necessary info, you are willing to (help) make a level editor?

I've been working on an NES level-editor framework that can be used in VB.NET or C# (or any .NET language) to make it easy to slap together a decent editor. What I had in mind was using my framework to make an editor for TMNT in order to test out/refine my framework. To that end, I'm more than willing to make/cooperate on a TMNT editor. (I can also help with the hackinating if necessary.)

You magnificent bastard. At any rate, I'm still going to document the ROM since I don't see any public notes available.

Can anyone else edit stages beyond 1-1 thru 1-6? What am I doing wrong?

[EDIT] Nevermind  :-[ I didn't RTFM. * PgUp/PgDn *

How do you delete an enemy?

EDIT: It's Ctrl-RightClick. It took a while to figure that out by trial and error. It would have been nice if it were in the documentation somewhere.

I'm really interested in this project and was wondering has happened?  It looks like only 1.5 months ago there was a lot of talk about starting it up full force.

I'm the current TMNT speedrun record holder, looks like someone uploaded to youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFukw68Y5nI  and I'd really like to make new hacked rom that's great for speedrunning and normal play as well.  There's so many neat things you can do in this game but they don't come up in speedrunning or normal play much if at all.  I feel as though with better levels this game could be so much more interesting and involved.  I really see great potential for this and some speedruns/TASes could help popularize the level editor.

Dan's cowabunga level editor is already pretty good.  If it could just delete/add special items, and I don't know if it can choose what enemies you add, I'm only able to add the mouser enemy; you'd really be able to do a lot with it.  Then if the ability to edit stuff like: overhead levels, entrance/exit locations to levels, level size/geometry, special events such as sub-bosses/bosses, damage/HP, frames required to hold jump to execute the three types of jumps (oddly specific but I feel as though this could be a lot better)- this could really give you supreme control over the game.
