Objectively, nothing, but some things were altered as per Nintendo's censorship policies of the time (cigs and matches -> coffee and donut) and/or localized to be more Western-friendly.

There are quite a few.

Fire 'n Ice / Soloman's Key 2 comes to mind. Also, Chuuka Taisen, Code Name: Viper / Human Weapon Dead Fox, Conquest of the Crystal Palace / Matendouji, and Dino Riki is missing the New Type part from the Japanese version. I'm sure there are plenty more too. If you look through the translations you'll find some that still use the unalteres Japanese title screens as well.

Not actually better but quite funny title differences you can see between Final Mission (JAP), S.C.A.T.: Special Cybernetic Attack Team (USA) and Action in New York (PAL).

I was about to write that the only improvement needed was for you to be less modest. But then I thought of one minor thing: the "Glory of Heracles" part is the only one that's not outlined with a darker shade. How about adding it? It would make the text stand out.

Oh boy! I always loved Gargoyle's Quest II's original title screen. It'd be awesome if someone could find out how to add the fire (and lightning bolt?) to the international one. Also, the sprite itself looks a bit different too. Hmm...

It looks great. My only critique is that the font seems a little thing and the jagged pixelation. Perhaps a less italic and more bold font would look a little cleaner.

To me the original title screen had an extra dimension to it that made it look as if it were carved or etched from stone. I would go with something to that effect.

The Glory of Heracles text leaves a little to be desired in my opinion. It feels a bit "default font" thrown in.

Stylistically, I'm really not feeling the choice to go sans-serif on it. Something more Romanesque with chisel serifs would be more suiting, I'd say, and with small caps instead of proper casing for the title.

Technically, the banding caused by skewing such narrow text at that resolution is the biggest problem. Also, the Japanese screen shows more depth on the letters, and seems to use its palette to not only anti-alias its hard edges, but to also introduce a second light source from behind, as seen on the grey planes of the characters.



Maybe that can help some.

I'd agree that thicker and more-compacted (removing empty space between letters) would be an improvement. The o in "of" looks too jagged, and maybe a thicker H. Those are the two letters I really don't like.
