I should also say that even if im putting patches in my posts, i'm still putting these up here in hopes of feedback.. if making changes will make them look better i'm all for doing so as suggested.

Well, for feedback, I got to say it looks great I think.  :thumbsup:  Wish I had a bit more constructive to add, but it looks quite nice, and that sums it up.

Read about the attribute tables in another thread and it sparked memories of the title hack I did for my Mega Man Powered Down hack.
So I read up on the subject and found the data in the AjD ROM. So here's the new title screen with corrected palettes:




I'm thinking of doing some further modifications. Here's a mock up of what I'm considering:

The modified one looks significantly better to me. Definitely cleaner.

I dunno, something about it doesn't sit right with me. Maybe it's the moved subtitle text? Maybe it's the fact that there's a LOT more white space now that the Konami logo's gone? I dunno.

I actually like both versions. Specially the gradient on CastleVania. I say, keep the blood splat close to the V (otherwise, it looks hammy- imo) and keep the subtitle close. OR! Replace the blood splat with it dripping into the subtitle.

I like the III in the mockup- gives it symmetry.

I like the placement of Konami in the mockup better than in the original. I also like the film reel holes.

Nice titlescreen regardless of my criticism! :thumbs up:

I'm guessing you'd test if the game pulls any surprises if you move/delete the Konami text/logo?
(don't know if AD/CV3 is one of the Konami games with mod-protection)

Tested, and no ill effects from switching out the tiles for blanks or changing the instructions for how he tiles are drawn.


I'm not sure getting rid of the Konami logo is a good thing. Just looking at all the Konami translations I've done, every single game has that logo on the top. You're going against traditional and breaking away from canon.

I'll give you that it does break with tradition, but I don't think the logo counts a canon. However, more importantly, there is a big issue with space. I need to kill the full logo in order to fit all the new tiles into the 400 byte tile map. Plus I can't preserve the color of the reel slots AND the Konami logo. Here's a second mock up that hopefully fits properly into 400 bytes and is a good compromise on the logo:



There are two things I can think of to try in order to have the logo keep it's colors and preserve the color of the reels.
A) The easy thing would be to go in and change the reel slots to use a different color by changing all instances of the palette it uses. Hopefully that doesn't clash with any other palette colors.
B) When I go in and change how the cursor is draw, I can try to include the reel slots as sprites and not as part of the background itself. This could be much more difficult, though.

I'm afraid having the text turn red is probably a little more than I'm capable of under the circumstances. It does sound like an awesome idea, though. I'll try to learn a little more ASM and see if I can make it happen at a later date. Right now I'm just gonna concentrate on getting everything to fit so I can release a patch.

Yeah, I was thinking it would have been cool and more coherent having the V's blood dripping into the subtitle with only that part drenched in blood. That way, the subtitle could be closer to CastleVania III. Too bad it seems like it's out of reach for now. :'(

@Garoth: I'm going to at least try to create the blood drip animation. At the very least I can change the sub-title to look like it's drenched in bloodfairly easily since it's all one big block of tiles anyway.

This should be the final mock up. As is I can fit in everything except the reel holes with 16 bytes left to spare. If I could somehow fit in another 12 bytes I could do the holes too. However, I'm confident I can put them in as sprites.
