I hope it's possible, that something will actually make this happen. It's not unheard of for PS4 games to be 60 GB. I just pulled this number out of thin air, as any one of you might have guessed  :), but it seems like they're not even trying to rein in the huge file sizes the newest games have. Hard drive sizes are getting larger, but for the time being the size of the games themselves is a problem for people who keep a large library in the current generation.

Newcomer's Board / Very confused about NES hex editing.
« on: May 01, 2019, 10:37:45 pm »
I've never done this before except to open up a hex editor and try to insert a header where there wasn't one. I have to do this for some of the FDS patches to work, actually, for half or more of them. I wasn't able to figure it out.  :(

So I got the game to work by changing the filter from none (garbled) to xBRZ 2x. I don't mind. The graphics actually look really nice with this filter. I'm just curious as to the technical reason why the filter makes the text look normal.

ROM Hacking Discussion / Homebrew Proto Dere for NES

I hate to be that guy who doesn't recommend a game based on it not working. So I didn't upload a negative review. But I'm still interested in playing a working version. Can someone get in contact with the uploader and tell them to post a revision?

ROM Hacking Discussion / Translating scripts: where to stop
« on: December 05, 2018, 03:49:38 am »
This is just a thought for people who translate scripts. As a language student, I know that changing the names of items, gear, and so on will confuse people who consult a guide for that sort of thing. It's kind of hellish when you play an RPG and the names of consumables and equips have been modified. Think of the Final Fantasy Tactics games. Playstation did the right thing and decided to retranslate the script... but they also went too far and renamed all the abilities, and some of them had no obvious connection to the original.   Unless I've played the game enough for it to be a favorite, I won't get all those names down. So, I'd like to say that I love retranslated scripts, but not retranslated menus.

Gaming Discussion / What video game are you currently playing?
« on: December 03, 2018, 10:06:16 pm »
I'm on my third play through of Vandal Hearts for PS1. It's a better game than its sequel, although both are very good. It was actually the game that got me into player phases and enemy phases. Before playing Vandal Hearts, I thought it was nicer to have each unit move based on innate speed. This game showed me taking turns can work, too.
