Newcomer's Board / Re: Hacking the original Metal Gear NES
« on: August 16, 2011, 08:10:44 pm »

I've gotta say, awesome job here!

I always wondered why this was taken away from the NES game.

Say, it wouldn't be possible to put those laser cameras in there, would it? :o

Hard? Or brutally abusing the SMB physics? Because I found SMB2 did the latter & wasn't fun because of it. :-\

A F-Zero or (insert 1st Person tunnel shooting game here) hack where you're racing and shooting things in someone's bowels.  The intro could feature a ship entering a goatse.
Kind of a Parodius-like game. ;D

Except this game would resemble Gyruss.  So it'd be called something like Vulgaruss. >:D :o

News Submissions / Re: ROM Hacks: Bugfixed version of Cheetahmen II
« on: July 22, 2011, 07:18:45 pm »

Game unfinishable? Bosses disappearing? How could those showstoppers escape the notice of developpers? Seriously?

Considering this game was never officially released, that's understandable.

However, was Cheetahmen I completable?  I never did get through that game.

Great, now I feel sad because I'm still a far way from finish my NES Nadia hack. :'(

Stupid math class. :-\

This is completely BAD ASS.

Or should I say ¡ muy excelente !

-MegaMan Wily Wars Speedup: For some reason this game feels slower than the NES counter parts.

I read this recently at NESDev:

Quote from: MottZilla
There is a rumor that Mega Man The Wily Wars was programmed in C for Genesis and is the explanation for why the game suffers from A LOT of slowdown compared to the NES versions. Seriously the game slows down while fighting CutMan if he throws his projectile as I recall which the NES version didn't.

That's not to say that you couldn't make a decent game in C for Genesis. Maybe 68000 compilers generate better code today too. But as with any system certain things will discourage homebrew development such as Sound & Music tools as well as alternative development platforms that may be more appealing or easier.

I know this must be late, but do you still need spriters for the ruined city?

I can go ahead and design some tiles based off of Journey to Silius' first stage.

ROM Hacking Discussion / Re: this game Hacked or video edited ?
« on: May 23, 2011, 11:00:23 pm »
Let's see why these aren't hacked:

01. Sonic the Hedgehog - no HUD
02. Tetris - widescreen?
03. Duck Hunt - too many sprites, & the machine gun from Doom
04. Pacman - I know there are a million versions of Pacman, but one with those ghost faces?
05. Q-Bert - who knows, maybe that one was ripped :o
06. The Legend of Zelda - Link doesn't move that slow; variable-width spacing? Without changing the dialogue?
07. Super Mario Kart - okay I'm board with this charade - they're obviously not hacks

Sounds promising.  Why don't you go ahead & make it?

Ooh! This has been on my project list for a long time.

Care to team up & tackle this together?

By the way, what are you translating the title to? Shenlong Mystery or Shenron Mystery? Or Mystery of Shenron?

Finally - I'll know how the hell to get out of that stupid house.

The mazes ruined the game for me from the start. :-\

NOT the card battle system.

Good job, Matrizzle!

Now if I can fight the urge to change that to "JEDIQUEST" ... >:D

I had time to start this.

I like what you did with having to find the first Sage - pretty clever.

Don't know where you want us to go next, though.  It's completely dark in all the caves. :-\

VirtualDub is only capable of very limited editing operations. Now, Avidemux is one of the few free non-linear video editors available for Windows, but I can’t vouch for it.

Don't knock VirtualDub!  I did this with it.

Looks like a promising hack!  Great job on the title screen! But I have to say, my main concern is with the darkness - usually when you want to use darker colors, it's best to throw in some really light colors to contrast with it.  A prime example is Batman (NES).

I've always wanted to see this game redone with added features, first & foremost being able to throw your projectiles while jumping.

A different map would also be nice.

I should've made a list; I know I had a bunch of things I wanted to see (some easy to hack, some not).

Edit: Okay, remembered some of them (made pictures, too! :o)

It was always annoying only seeing stuff when it was right in front of you - it'd be nice if we could've seen people standing wherever they were.  Likewise...

No more having to scavenge for those stupid letters.  Of course, this is all wishful thinking!

There is an unknown person in this cabin.

Who is that? (Again, wishful thinking)

I once had a dream I was playing 4-player Friday the 13th (but it was actually a 3D newer-gen game).

And here's the most wishful thinking of all!

Among the things that are probably easy to hack:

-longer days
-not losing your machete if you touch a knife
-less of Jason attacking the children (I thought Jason didn't kill children?) & more attacking the counselors &...
-more sudden appearances of Jason during sidescrolling scenes (or maybe not :-\)

When do Die Hard games ever follow the movie plot?

At least I know the arcade & Die Hard Trilogy for Playstation made significant changes. I think. :-\

I think you should do Gyruss next. ;)

I just played the game again for the NES, & apparently the FDS version has a full ending! :o

It's nice to know what's going on now! :)

What still needs to be done?
