I remember a while back a site showing off a custom SNES with a bunch of extra features, I believe it was done by the same person that did a fairly extensive German translation of Breath of Fire 2 if my memory serves me correctly. Does anyone remember this / know what this mod was called?

Holy crap, I never thought this game's translation would be finished. Good work Hiei!

Can you play this game without playing the other 3? I'd love to play this translation but I don't have the time to invest in three other large-scale RPGs right now  :-\

This is an absolutely incredible game, I can't recommend it highly enough. The story is really deep and your actions have a direct influence on what happens, which is really nice to see.

I loved the Earthbound-style influence that Toby put into the game, and he has a great sense of humor. Nice to see something like this come out!

You could always try doing what some GBA games do and pre-calculate a set of random numbers which you can select from in that function. That might solve the issue without requiring too many changes to be made to the original code.

C# isn't really interpreted, it's dynamically recompiled - same as Java. It tends to be pretty performant these days, nothing compared to C++/C but it's a lot easier to work with :)

I think it's a wise choice if this is more of an educational project

You could always try decompiling it? Should be able to see what they've changed fairly easily

You could try playing it with an unpatched version to try and get around that bug, then save immediately after you get past that point

If you're new to programming, it can't hurt to give flash a go for your first game. You can make some really high quality work out of it - Binding of Isaac is a good example of a high quality modern flash game.

I'm pretty sure each texture is CRCed in RAM and that CRC is used for the filename. If certain textures aren't showing up, then the CRC is different for those textures in your copy of the game.

You could try re-dumping them, that way you'd have the right files.

The story is paramount above anything else for me, that's why I tend to prefer games like Heavy Rain, or cutscene heavy games like MGS4.

I really liked FF Dimensions, annoyingly I lost my save when restoring my device, for some reason Square didn't think to enable iCloud for it like some of their other games, so I haven't bothered to go through all the chapters again.

One thing I don't like - which a lot of larger game studios do on iOS - is they don't bother updating games for newer iOS platforms when features like iCloud sync for local data, or bigger screen resolutions, etc, come out. Considering how much they charge for their iOS games you'd think they'd devote a bit of those profits to maintaining their software.

One set of remakes I really liked were the PSP versions of 1 and 2. If they gave 6 the same HD treatment and added iOS 7's controller support, I'd be tempted to pick it up.

The main issue with the controller is ironically, it doesn't have enough touchpads.

Let's use a real world example. Batman: Arkham Asylum(The sequel works just as well). It uses the dpad for switching between various gadgets, a left analogue stick to move, a right analogue stick to change camera angle, the main four face buttons for running/confirm button, countering, grabbing/cancel button, and attack. It also has various things mapped to the 4 shoulder buttons, along with start and select/whatever you want to call it button/s being used for things as well.

It doesn't have enough shit.

It seems to be designed to be a complete substitute for the usual WASD + mouse combo, with four extra utility buttons for anything extra the game might need. With arkham asylum doesn't it use the scroll wheel for switching weapons? In which case the controller has you covered, the scroll wheel mapping is shown on that diagram they've got.
