News Submissions / Re: ROM Hacks: New Hacks Added to the Database
« on: August 19, 2016, 01:46:06 am »
Now that we're starting to see GameCube hacks, I'm going to guess these are going to require downloading "scene" ISOs (which were hacked to massively reduce the size. Pure GameCube (and Wii) ISOs, such as dumped through a Wii with homebrew are a constant huge size (though at least untouched GC ISOs can compress somewhat, Wii cannot it seems).

Both Gamecube and Wii games be compressed with Dolphin to the GCZ format. A lot of them compress greatly like Animal Crossing going down to 32MB from 1.4GB.

It's a $20 dollar game being sold at $60. You go to a planet, look around, get resources and go to the next planet. Wide as an ocean and barely as deep as a puddle.

I would actually be surprised if a majority of the people here didn't still use AOL email.

Companies have to protect their IPs or else they risk losing them... It's not like they're doing it because they're trying to keep the little man down.

Haven't you forgotten a little something?
(I don't mean "please", I mean...)
What game are you talking about, and on which console?

FR = Pokemon Fire Red = Game Boy Advance

Looks and plays great so far!

I feel like trying to make it look Japanese but in a way that an English speaker would actually get the pun it will just end up looking awkward. Unless its already awkward in Japanese and that's how it's supposed to be.

Was doing some research on Breath of Fire 3 for a translation request, ended up adding a proportional font because reasons:

Hnnnnng. That looks nice. It also brought to light something I never noticed... Eqip.  :o

How does Charlotte sound spider- or demon-like? (I'm probably missing a cultural reference here.)

It's cute that everyone has their own little doghouse to live in.

I can't get it to work either but it doesn't crash. The screen just goes black as soon as I move. Patched over a clean headered rom and patched over the VWF hacked rom. Same results. Tried in both snes9x and bsnes-mercury.

Then what are you doing on this site ?! It's about romhacking on retro consoles.

What does that have to do with playing on outdated emulators? I come here for ways to make my experience better than it was back in the day. Not for ways to degrade it cause nostalgia.

Complete fabrication. Don't take any advice from this guy. He has no idea what he's talking about. He's so far off base, he's not even playing in the same ballpark. ::)

The REAL Answer

The system checks for all known valid resolutions for all consoles in the database. Turns out there was bug introduced the last time the console lists was re-organized to official names. Some consoles weren't being processed correctly. It should be fixed now. And of course 'JPEG is not recommended as it reduces the image quality'.

I'm just going by my experience from when I submitted something.  It never said anything to me when I submitted screenshots 6x larger than the original resolution. I was wrong about the jpg thing oh well.  ::)

The system only cares if the screenshot's link ends in a .jpg extension. It doesn't check the resolution.

*shrug* They let it through but someone down the line might flag it as noncompliant and a different reviewer might remove it. They're inconsistent like that.

Gaming Discussion / Re: The HD Mini-NES is a thing.

This sounds pretty badass. Reminds me of last year how Sega did something similar with the Genesis but that console could still play carts if I remember right (tho I don't think the genesis one could go HD). Kind of wish I had bought one of those, if anything for the controllers (since both o' mine are busted from douchebag friends having Ms.Pac-Man marathons).

Can the controllers be removed from the console? My browser won't open the link due to caveman internets.

The controllers can be removed but they use the Wii's nunchuck plug instead of the original NES.
