Programming / Please don't tell me Hex Editing is the only way...
« on: November 30, 2011, 02:55:31 pm »
I've always had a fascination with Megaman Hacks where the music is changed. I download so many hacks just to see what kind of music they put in them. I've always wanted to edit Megaman music as well.

...I'm sorry, but I CAN NOT figure out Hex Editors. I try editing numbers on random just to see what's changed, and nothing usually happens except misplaced sprites or malfunctioning objects. Please don't tell me Hex Editing is the only way to change the music. Please tell me there's an easier way.

For what game is it for?

Can you even convert NSF (NES music) files into any game? I don't think you can.

Plint Michigan, are you using AGIXP to insert Pokemon sprites?  I'd like to help you, but I have to ask this question first.

I haven't used my program in a while, but yes I believe so.

Cool.

Mind if I ask a question. I'm trying to make my own hack of Gold/Silver using new Pokemon. But every time I try to replace the starter's sprites, they come up garbled. Is there any way to get around this?

Dabbling with a replacement font for Zelda ALTTP:

I think it's cool.

I might have said this many a year ago, but I'd kind of like to see a Megaman hack that works like a Donkey Kong Country game where you have to go through a few different levels before reaching a robot master. Unlike all those Endless hacks, the levels are not random, but they're about as short. Possibly the name of the level appears on the screen before you start a level instead of "Ready!"
