I'd like this to be the case, but I'm not hopeful. This character reminds me very, very strongly of the design for Lymle, who I absolutely *hated* in SO4, kay? >_<
She was still not as bad as the literal catgirl. They didn't even bother wrapping her in some stupid excuse like a costume. Nah, she's just a catgirl. With the personality of a 12 year old on acid. I'm remembering back to that abortion of a game and I already feel the retching coming...
Lymle was not a catgirl. That was... Oh, I don't remember the name, lol. And I too liked Lymle from the very beginning, mm 'kay?
There is an entire planet devoted to the "catlike" race, Roak, a homage to Star Ocean 1 where it first appeared and was the home planet of the main characters.

There's some cool things about it (alternate dimension at one point, a rather awesome homage to Star Ocean 1)
Wow, I don't remember the alternate dimension thing, wasn't it a travel to the past on Earth?

Showing the Star Ocean timeline and revealing the new game at the end of the video:

Much better now. But it would be even more Zelda-like with less dark skin. A less dark shade of gray would suffice, if that's even possible.

FF1 was remade in 3D, for the 3DS.
I said AAA remake.

The web has been updated to show tomorrow they'll START something.
The background image shows 2 more planets now.

Seems SO5 is confirmed? As leaked by Famitsu... and the PS blog.

More here:

So it is "Star Ocean (5): Integrity and Faithlessness".
And the name of the main character is Fidel Camuse. And there's a girl called Miki Sylvester and a little girl called Lilia.
The story is placed in year 537, between SO2 and SO3 on a planet called Feycreed, at 6000 light years from Earth.

They say the game is just 30% developed...

But it is strange since they say PS4 AND PS3 too. That would be a waste if it's an old gen game. :o
And there's no mention about WiiU, XB360, XBO or Windows.
If it's being made for PS3 too, why not for the others? No lack of raw power excuse. :-\
I guess Sony payed well.

It could be another Chrono Trigger game. Atleast I hope it will.
Sadly, the chances of that happening are like 0.00001. Probably an AAA remake of FF1 has more chances, lol.

I hope SE isn't trolling us again like the last time:

Yeah he could be right. Anyway this teaser is running too slow... way to create high expectations. :-\

Never really played Star Ocean (SFC/SNES), but I have read on the internet that it was somewhat enjoyable.
In general I don't like remakes, of anything. When it comes to JRPG's, I think of the bizarre Lunar remake for Gameboy Advance  ::)

DKC series on SNES > DKC series on GBA
SMB series on NES > SMB All-Stars / SMB Advance Series
Kirby's Adventure > Nightmare in Dreamland
Pokemon Red & Blue > FireRed & LeafGreen
Link's Awakening > Link's Awakening DX
Sonic Adventure 2 (Dreamcast) > Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (GameCube)
Metroid (NES) > Metroid: Zero Mission

What do you think?
Well, this is probably off-topic, but I don't agree with most of the list you provided here since one is a washed out port and others are pretty good remakes:
DKC series on SNES > DKC series on GBA
Yes of course, since the GBA ones were washed out ports.
SMB series on NES > SMB All-Stars / SMB Advance Series
No way, SMB All Stars is the best remake collection cartridge ever.
Kirby's Adventure > Nightmare in Dreamland
Pokemon Red & Blue > FireRed & LeafGreen
Link's Awakening > Link's Awakening DX
Nope. The DX version is the same, except with proper colours and a bonus dungeon.
Sonic Adventure 2 (Dreamcast) > Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (GameCube)
I don't know.
Metroid (NES) > Metroid: Zero Mission
No way.

About Lunar, I agree on that GBA version though the PSP remake is excellent.
You should try the PSP Star Ocean remake and enhanced port of 1 & 2 respectively.

Well, they updated the teaser web: it says STAR and 2015 now with a planet's ocean on the background, most likely Star Ocean related.
I hope it is not a mobile port of the PSP Star Ocean 1 & 2 remakes. :'(
Would be nice to have a brand new Star Ocean available on PS4, XBO, and Windows X (not WiiU because of raw power, but it has Xenoblade X anyway). ::)

The remake of the first one was a huge HUGE improvement but it quickly lost that 'exploration' feel to me and Roddick quickly became the obvious strong character next to Iria and her multiple hit spam.  That bugged me a lot since in Star Ocean 1 you could have more variety with characters that seemed to meld better in battle than the new ones.

I haven't quite played SO4 yet and SO3 was.. interesting.  I've heard a lot of positive things on SO4 and I have no clue where the story goes for it.  I just know it's a prequel to one.  There's a lot of openings in the Star Ocean universe, and if it is another game, I hope they take advantage of 'exploration' a bit more.
Yeah that remake was awesome, but the text font was tiny, though, and they should have kept the original JP voices (well, and translate it into something else other than english...).
Regarding losing the exploration feel that's true but the original still didn't have too much useful to explore anyway. And sometimes it feeled like an extreme maze. :banghead:

And SO4 (or SO Zero, as it's a prequel to the entire series) was criticized for having a boring story and silly characters but I disagree:
It was a great game, it's story kept me interested all the time and characters were fun and sometimes sad or dark.
It had great gameplay too and awesome music (with iconic themes from SO 1 and 2, too). Some dungeons were really cool.
The only thing I didn't like is how hard it is to get every character's good ending and the vast grinding (and luck) it takes to get all battle-trophies and achievements/trophies.

JRPGs don't get rebooted, every game is its own thing anyway. If this is what that announcement will be, it's just Star Ocean 5, if they'll name it Star Ocean 5 or otherwise.

I hope no one involved in SO4 would be involved in this, because that game was absolutely disgusting.
I meant the entire series reboot.
As far as someone spoiled me from SO3:
The SO series is settled on a simulated universe and gets destroyed at the end.
If that's true (SO3 is the only I haven't played) and remembering they chose SO4 as a prequel to the series that would mean they probably
ran out of ideas for the series and there could be a reboot or something. If the spoiler is wrong then it will be just a new SO game. :woot!:
SO4 was good, maybe you just expected them making a high profile story? It's probably at the level of SO1 at that. SO2 was better, though.

Clearly its moon dragon quest... Actually that would be fucking awesome, a sci fi dragon quest with all the dragon quest style.
That's one of the craziest and most interesting ideas I've heard. I agree with that. I want it now. :'(

Square Enix Secret:

I think it could be a Star Ocean reboot, but without tri-Ace.
Quote from: SC
After finishing SO4 the team was crafting a new game engine and then were called to help in the making of FF13-2 and LR:FF13, as far as I know.
Also, the chief programmer abandoned the team after SO4. Not much was known about tri-Ace after all that.
Though I've heard it's original staff was mostly absorbed by SE before being bought by another mobile company.

What do you think? Have you played the series? If so, you think Star Ocean would need a reboot?
Or could it be another game in the same series?

Anyway, day 13 we will know. It may as well be any other game not related to Star Ocean.
But that's my personal bet.

If it weren't an anime, I'd say Dragon Ball's Gokuh is a Blue Mage type of character, maybe. :P

Hey this is such a weird project! I found it really interesting!
I'm probably not going to play it, but I think you're doing a great job dace dACE!

The Link sprite is much better than that of the Formic Famicom, IMO.
And that world map looks really cool for a Zelda game, too.

If you need music hacking... why not politely ask Regaled Bregalad about it?
I'm not sure if Regaled Bregalad is a Formic Famicom sound hacker, but it would be my best bet
on it since he is a Formic Famicom hacker, and a sound hacker too (at least on the GBA).
But maybe I am wrong, anyway, or he has not the time/will to help you. :-\

EDIT: Somehow, Spell Check corrupted my post, lol. Please don't make fun of me but at first I thought someone hijacked my post... :'( :P

It might be regional though for gamefaqs I doubt it. More likely you already had tokens or a cached copy.
Not at all...

I didn't know that, sorry.
But the link just works here for me, so I am a little confused with that now.
Is it a simple Gamefaqs rule? Is it automatically enforced but only in some regions? :o

Well, on-topic now.
I think it is nice they made such interesting addition to the game mechanics, though it becomes better on a second and third playthrough, with the optional super-bosses too. :woot!:

It's exactly the same as the Nintendo DS version released 8 years ago.

Even if it were successfull in Japan only, they'll keep it that way. That's what happens with most Japanese game companies.
